Trosolwyg

Co-director of the Intelligent Process Monitoring and Management (IPMM) Centre since its foundation in 1998.  My areas of expertise are in the monitoring and management of processes using low-cost microcontrollers. IPMM research has produced a unique set of distributed, intelligent process monitoring modules that can be deployed within any manufacturing process. An important element of this work has been the transfer of the developed technology into partner organisations; the innovative nature of the monitoring systems produced offers great potential in enhancing the effectiveness of process management across a wide spectrum of engineering. Overall in leading the above research programmes I have directed the work of sixteen researchers and have supervised seven PhD students and two Eng.D students. The work has produced over one hundred publications, of which sixty have been published since the establishment of the IPMM Centre in 1998. I have presented papers at numerous conferences and I have been invited to present our work in a number of DTI/IEE workshops and seminars. I act as a referee for relevant academic journals, including those in which I have published and I have acted as a referee for EPSRC on process monitoring related project proposals. My aim is to continue to identify new and exciting areas within which current and future research can be conducted. My main area of teaching expertise is Design. Much of my course material has been developed as a consequence of my involvement with industry. This has produced numerous case studies for my teaching, and has provided project students at B.Eng/M.Eng and MSc levels with industrially relevant collaborative projects; I have supervised over fifty MSc projects. I also enjoy the supervision of doctoral research students; I currently supervise ten PhD students. Mechanical, Manufacturing and Medical Engineering
