Research

Research interests

My current research is focussed on non-linear dynamical systems, modelling bio-polymers and phase transitions in condensed matter. Before that I had worked on electronic structure calculations of semiconductor surfaces and interfaces; atomic modelling of surface diffusion and growth; simulation of Reflection Anisotropy Spectra and Scanning Tunnelling Microscope images.

Teaching

My teaching duties include:
Lectures:
PX1121 - Mechanics and Matter
PX3141 - Atomic and Nuclear Physics
Tutorials for 1st and 2nd year students
Project supervison (3rd and 4th year).

Biography

I read Physics at Imperial College and got my DPhil from Oxford University. I have been at Cardiff since 1984.
