Overview

I am a third year PhD student with a special interest in encouraging diversity within the business community. My research focuses on gender and the provision of finance to entrepreneurial ventures.

I firmly believe in the importance of engagement between various stakeholders in the entrepreneurial ecosystem and the dissemination of academic research findings to the wider community. I am actively involved in both local and national industry events and also participate in events at Cardiff University.

In November 2019, I was pleased to be a panellist at an event giving local entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch for equity funding and support.

I represented The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences in the Rising Stars of Research public event: https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/events/view/2486306-rising-stars-of-research

Research

My PhD research project focuses on the ways in which gender may influence the decsion to become a business angel investor in an investment syndicate in the UK.

In September 2020, I led a research team from Cardiff University and the University of South Wales to find solutions to the impact of Covid-19 on women entrepreneurs in Wales. Subsequently, as co-investigator on a successful ESRCIAA funding bid, I was able to work on a collaborative project with the research team, the Executive Education Department at Cardiff University and participants from the study, to deliver a bespoke programme of online workshops to address the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Recent collaborations

Jones, J., Galazka, A., Edwards, T. and Atkinson C. 2020 ‘Covid-19 and female entrepreneurship in Wales: impact and solutions’ (unpublished research funded by the Welsh Government, conducted in collaboration with the University of South of Wales).

Funding applications and awards:

2021 ‘Supporting women entrepreneurs through the Covid-19 crisis’, Economic and Social Research Council Impact Accelerator Award (online training workshops for female entrepreneurs in collaboration with the entrepreneurs and the Executive Education unit at Cardiff Business School)
