Overview
Experienced research chemist specialising in the intersection of biomaterials and surface chemistry. My expertise lies in the development of biocompatible coatings and composite materials tailored for advanced medical applications, including blood-contacting materials and implants. Drawing upon my PhD in the Physics and Chemistry of Surface, I've extensively worked on the adsorption of carboxylic acids on inorganic oxides, employing advanced techniques such as DRIFT, TGA, SEM, AFM, and thermal desorption mass spectroscopy. Recent highlights include leading on thromboresistant coatings for blood-contacting devices as part of the Marie Curie Individual Fellowship and innovating antimicrobial coatings for orthopaedic applications within an EPSRC project. Alongside my primary focus on surface chemistry, I also possess skills in synthesising drug-loaded nanoparticles and a deep understanding of microbiology techniques.
