Overview
I am a Professor of Nursing at the School of Healthcare Sciences and co-Deputy Director of the Wales Centre For Evidence Based Care, a JBI Centre of Excellence https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/research/explore/research-units/wales-centre-for-evidence-based-care
I took up my first University post in 2001 as a lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies, University of Wales College of Medicine with an initial remit of developing practice nurse education in Gwent. Prior to this I worked clinically as a practice nurse, contributing to: practice nurse education as a practice nurse trainer, governance as the practice nurse member and joint clinical governance lead of Newport Local Health Group and to evidence-based practice as practice nurse advisor to TRIP (Turning Research into Practice).
Throughout my academic career I have held a number of senior positions including Programme Manager, Professional Head Primary Care/Public Health Nursing, Director of Postgraduate Taught Studies(PGT) and Chair Undergraduate Exam Board. I participate in a range of international activities in my capacity as Director WCEBC and as an academic. I am an experienced nurse educator and researcher and have developed and delivered UG, PGT and PGR curricula at home and overseas. My teaching, research, scholarship and innovation, and engagement activities focus on evidence-based synthesis and evidence implementation and I have an interest in long-term conditions and primary/community care nursing.
