Ymchwil
Mae fy llyfr Individualism and Inequality – the future of work and politics yn tynnu ynghyd lawer o wahanol linynnau o fy ymchwil ar gymdeithaseg gwaith a marchnadoedd llafur ac astudiaethau empirig o weithwyr mudol, gwahaniaethu, cyflogaeth annisgwyl, diswyddiadau a diweithdra, hunaniaethau cymdeithasol, camdriniaeth yn y gweithle, ac unigoliaeth. Mae'r llyfr hefyd yn tynnu ar fy ymchwil mewn cymdeithaseg addysg ac yn enwedig addysg a hyfforddiant ôl-orfodol, gan gynnwys dysgu anffurfiol, a'r trawsnewid i'r gwaith. Fel fy beirniadaeth gynharach o gymdeithaseg economaidd, er enghraifft fel y'i crynhowyd yn fy llyfr The New Sociology of Economic Behaviour, mae fy llyfr diweddarach hefyd yn tynnu ar fy llyfr theori gymdeithasol, The Demoralization of Western Culture (a gyhoeddwyd yn 2000 ac wedi'i gyfieithu i Tsieineaidd). Rwyf hefyd wedi ysgrifennu erthyglau ar theori gymdeithasol mewn perthynas â chenedlaetholdeb a hunaniaeth genedlaethol ac wedi cyhoeddi astudiaethau empirig o genedlaetholdeb a hunaniaeth genedlaethol Cymru. Mae ymchwil empirig rydw i wedi'i gynnal yng Nghymru yn cynnwys gwaith ar economi Cymru, a chyfranogiad grwpiau ymylol mewn llywodraethu.
Mae ymchwil empirig arall rydw i wedi'i gyfarwyddo wedi canolbwyntio ar driniaeth deg yn y gweithle, yn enwedig pobl ag anableddau. Yn ei gamau cynnar, dylanwadodd y gwaith hwn ar gyflawni Cytundeb Gwasanaeth Cyhoeddus Cydraddoldeb y DU ac fe'i dyfynnwyd gan weinidog y DU dros bobl anabl pan ofynnwyd iddo amddiffyn record yr EHRC ar hawliau anabledd. Ym mis Hydref 2010, cyhoeddodd y Comisiwn Cydraddoldeb a Hawliau Dynol eu Adolygiad Triennial Pa mor deg yw Prydain? Cydraddoldeb, Hawliau Dynol a Chysylltiadau Da yn 2010. Mae'r bennod ar gyflogaeth yn yr adroddiad dylanwadol hwn, a ddarllenwyd yn eang, yn gwneud defnydd helaeth o adroddiad 2009 ar yr Arolwg Triniaeth Deg yn y Gwaith yr oeddwn yn brif awdur arno. Roedd yn llywio cynlluniau cydraddoldeb strategol cannoedd o gyrff cyhoeddus ac Amcanion Cydraddoldeb Llywodraeth Cymru. Yn ôl Llywodraeth y DU, roedd canfyddiadau'r Arolwg yn 'rhan sylfaenol o'r broses datblygu polisi. Er enghraifft, mae'r arolwg wedi cael ei ddefnyddio fel un mesur o raddfa a natur gwrthdaro yn y gweithle sy'n bwydo i newidiadau diweddar mewn perthynas â datrys anghydfodau, tra bod ei fesurau o ymwybyddiaeth gweithwyr o hawliau cyflogaeth wedi bwydo i ddatblygu polisi ar weithio hyblyg.'
Defnyddiwyd llawer o agweddau ar yr ymchwil ar gamdriniaeth yn y gwaith gan wneuthurwyr polisi, cyflogwyr, undebau llafur a gweithwyr proffesiynol cyfreithiol. Helpodd ein canfyddiadau ar drin gweithwyr ag anableddau y DU i gyflawni ei rhwymedigaethau cytundeb a chonfensiwn rhyngwladol mewn perthynas â phobl ag anableddau ac roedd yr EHRC yn dibynnu'n helaeth ar yr ymchwil i gyflawni ei rôl statudol i hyrwyddo cydraddoldeb a hawliau dynol. Darparodd ein hymchwil un o Ddangosyddion Perfformiad Cydraddoldeb y DU ac ymgorfforwyd argymhellion ganddo mewn deddfwriaeth y DU. Roedd cyflogwyr y sector cyhoeddus, gan gynnwys adrannau'r llywodraeth, yn dibynnu arno i gyflawni eu dyletswyddau statudol. Defnyddiodd cannoedd o sefydliadau'r ymchwil i hyrwyddo gwell triniaeth i weithwyr ag anableddau ac fe lunio dadl gyhoeddus ehangach.
Addysgu
Yn ogystal ag addysgu ar bob lefel o israddedig rhagarweiniol i ddoethuriaeth broffesiynol, rwyf hefyd wedi cyhoeddi erthyglau ar gyfer myfyrwyr cymdeithaseg Safon Uwch ac, gydag Angus Bancroft, Dead White Men and Other Important People, gwerslyfr i fyfyrwyr blwyddyn gyntaf a ysgrifennwyd fel nofel. Cyhoeddwyd yr argraffiad cyntaf gan Bloomsbury yn 2010 a daeth yn werthwr gorau. Fe'i cyfieithwyd i Gorëeg a Tsieinëeg a chyhoeddwyd ail argraffiad yn 2016. Ar hyn o bryd rydym yn gweithio ar drydydd argraffiad.
