Trosolwg
Mae Richard yn Ddarlithydd mewn Daearyddiaeth Ddynol y mae ei ymchwil ar groesffordd daearyddiaeth â chymdeithaseg. Cyn dod i Gaerdydd, roedd Richard yn fyfyriwr DPhil ac yn Gynorthwyydd Ymchwil ym Mhrifysgol Rhydychen ac yna'n Gymrawd Ymchwil Prifysgol mewn Cymdeithaseg ym Mhrifysgol Birmingham. Mae Richard wedi ymchwilio'n helaeth i'r berthynas rhwng amrywiaeth ethnig ac ethno-grefyddol a chynllunio awdurdodau lleol. Yn benodol, mae ganddo ddiddordeb hirsefydlog yn y berthynas rhwng cynllunio a gwleidyddiaeth ofodol adeiladu mosgiau, y mae wedi cyhoeddi'n eang arno dros y ddau ddegawd diwethaf. Gyda Dr Andrew Rogers o Brifysgol Roehampton, arweiniodd Richard 'Rhwydwaith Ffydd a Lle' a ariennir gan y Cyngor Ymchwil, a gynhyrchodd Briffio Polisi, a gymeradwywyd gan Lywodraeth Ganolog y DU, y Sefydliad Brenhinol Cynllunio Trefi (RTPI) ac Archesgobion Caergaint a Chymru. Mae Richard hefyd wedi cymryd rhan mewn nifer o ymgynghoriadau llywodraethol sylweddol ar thema ffydd a chynllunio, o dan gomisiwn i lywodraethau canolog, lleol a datganoledig yn y DU.

Mae gan Richard ddiddordeb mewn dadleuon sy'n ymwneud â methodoleg ymchwil gymdeithasol, ac mae wedi ymrwymo i strategaethau sy'n cyfuno mewnwelediadau dulliau ymchwil meintiol ac ansoddol. Hyd yn hyn, mae ei brif gyfraniadau wedi bod i ddadleuon yn yr astudiaeth ddaearyddol o grefydd ac Islam yn y DU ac ymgysylltu gwleidyddol pobl ifanc o dreftadaeth ethnig leiafrifoedd. Mae hefyd yn fwyfwy ymrwymedig i ymchwil sy'n adeiladu ar berthynas gydgynhyrchiol rhwng academyddion a grwpiau cymunedol. Mynegir hyn yn arbennig trwy ymchwil y mae Richard yn ei arwain mewn partneriaeth â chymuned Somaliland yng Nghaerdydd, gyda chefnogaeth Porth Cymunedol Prifysgol Caerdydd, yn ogystal â'r ESRC a'r Gronfa Ymchwil Heriau Byd-eang (GCRF).
