Mae Tim wedi addysgu ar draws ystod o bynciau yn y gwyddorau cymdeithasol ar lefelau israddedig, graddedig ac ôl-raddedig, Mae wedi dal swyddi rheoli mewn prifysgolion, gan gynnwys bod yn Gyfarwyddwr canolfan ymchwil hunangyllidedig i raddau helaeth (Dyfodol Trefol a Rhanbarthol Cynaliadwy) gyda swyddfeydd yng Nghanol Manceinion.
Mae Tim wedi gweithio a chydweithio gyda'r sectorau cyhoeddus, preifat a gwirfoddol, gan gynnwys prifysgolion, gyda grantiau'n cael eu dyfarnu o ffynonellau lleol, rhanbarthol, cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol: er enghraifft, yr Undeb Ewropeaidd, ESRC, EPSRC, AHRC, NESTA, Cyngor Dinas Manceinion, y GIG, Siambrau Busnes Prydain a Sefydliad Mistra.
Mae Tim wedi ysgrifennu a golygu deunaw llyfr, gan gynnwys rhifynnau newydd, sydd wedi'u cyfieithu i bymtheg o ieithoedd, yn ogystal â golygu cyfres o lyfrau (Issues in Society) ac ysgrifennu dros gant wyth deg o erthyglau cyfnodolion, penodau llyfrau, adroddiadau ymchwil ac erthyglau mewn cyfryngau eraill.

Bywgraffiad
Ar ôl gadael yr ysgol yn 16 oed, hyfforddodd Tim a gweithiodd fel peiriannydd amaethyddol. Yn dilyn cwrs dychwelyd i astudio gyda'r nos, ac yn ystod y cyfnod hwnnw bu'n gweithio yn y sectorau manwerthu, aeth i'r brifysgol yn 25 oed. Daeth gradd gyntaf Tim o'r LSE, lle dyfarnwyd Gwobr Goffa Hobhouse iddo (BSc Econ 1985). Aeth ymlaen wedyn i astudio am M.Sc. mewn Dulliau Ymchwil Cymdeithasol ym Mhrifysgol Surrey (1986) a Ph.D. mewn polisi cymdeithasol a chymdeithaseg ym Mhrifysgol Plymouth (1990).
Penodwyd Tim yn ddarlithydd ym Mhrifysgol Plymouth ym mis Medi 1989. Yn ystod y cyfnod hwn cyhoeddodd lyfrau ar y gwasanaeth prawf, dulliau ymchwil ac ethnograffeg a dyfarnwyd Diploma iddo mewn Dylunio a Datblygu Deunyddiau Dysgu Agored. Bu'n dysgu ar draws ystod eang o bynciau gan gynnwys troseddeg, cymdeithaseg gwyriad, sgiliau astudio mewn addysg uwch a pholisi cymdeithasol a lles cymdeithasol. Symudodd Tim i Brifysgol Durham fel darlithydd mewn cymdeithaseg a pholisi cymdeithasol ym 1995. Cyhoeddodd ym meysydd athroniaeth y gwyddorau cymdeithasol, damcaniaeth gymdeithasol, gan weithio gyda throseddwyr, newid sefydliadol a methodoleg ymchwil a dulliau ymchwil a addysgir, theori gymdeithasol a chymdeithaseg rheolaeth a sefydliadau.
Ym mis Awst 1999, daeth Tim yn Gadeirydd mewn Cymdeithaseg ym Mhrifysgol Salford. Ar ôl cyfnod fel Cyfarwyddwr Cymdeithaseg, daeth yn Gyfarwyddwr Arweiniol y Ganolfan Dyfodol Trefol a Rhanbarthol Cynaliadwy (SURF). Arhosodd Tim yn SURF tan 2016. Gweithiodd gyda sefydliadau ar draws gwahanol sectorau, gan gynnwys trwy secondiadau a chyd-olygwyd cyfnodolyn special editions, ysgrifennodd erthyglau cyfnodolion, penodau llyfrau ac adroddiadau ymchwil, golygodd gyfres o lyfrau rhyngwladol (Issues in Society) a chyhoeddodd lyfrau ar ymchwil gymdeithasol ac atgyrchedd, damcaniaeth gymdeithasol a meddwl cymdeithasegol.
Roedd SURF yn cyfuno rhagoriaeth academaidd a pherthnasedd polisi. Roedd yn gweithredu ar economi gymysg o gyllid, gan ei gwneud yn ofynnol i gynhyrchu tua phum can mil o bunnoedd y flwyddyn fodloni ei orbenion a rheoli a datblygu diwylliant cefnogol a chydweithredol o ymchwiliad sefydliadol. Canmolwyd SURF am ei effaith wyddonol gymdeithasol a'i berthnasedd polisi ac adeiladwyd cysylltiadau traws-sectoraidd llwyddiannus gyda chydweithredwyr a chyllidwyr ar lefelau lleol, cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol ar draws gwahanol sectorau.
Yn 2015 daeth Tim yn Athro rhan-amser yn Durham i'w cynghori ar sefydlu canolfan ryngddisgyblaethol, draws-gyfadran mewn methodoleg ac roedd yn Gymrawd yn y Sefydliad Astudiaethau Uwch. Yn 2016 daeth Tim yn Gyfarwyddwr Ymchwil Sefydliad Dulliau Sheffield ac yna'n Gymrawd Ymchwil Athrofaol ym Mhrifysgol Sheffield tan Awst 2022.
Tra yn Sheffield roedd Tim yn rhan o raglen ymchwil o'r enw Realising Just Cities. Rhaglen £2.5M oedd hon a ariannwyd gan ddau grant ESRC a Mistra Urban Futures, wedi'u lleoli yn Sweden, gyda phartneriaid yn Kenya, De Affrica, Sweden a'r DU. Gweithiodd Tim i Mistra yn eu cynghori ar sut i sefydlu canolfan ryngwladol ryngddisgyblaethol a chydweithredol a allai gyfuno'r elfennau a wnaeth SURF yn nodedig. Roedd ei ffocws yn Realising Just Cities ar wybodaeth a chyfiawnder, yn ogystal ag archwiliad hirsefydlog o'r berthynas rhwng methodoleg a diwylliannau sefydliadol. Y pwnc hwnnw a arweiniodd at gael ei gyflogi gan brifysgolion i gynghori ar eu strategaethau economaidd-gymdeithasol. Yn ystod y cyfnod hwn cyhoeddodd Tim waith ar brifysgolion, adweithedd, dinasoedd a'r economi wybodaeth, methodoleg ac ymchwil gymdeithasol.
