Derbyniodd Nicolás Abadía radd Peirianneg Telathrebu gan Brifysgol Dechnegol Madrid a'r Sefydliad Brenhinol Technoleg. Wedi hynny, cafodd Nicolás M.Sc ar y cyd. mewn Ffotoneg ym Mhrifysgol Ghent, y Sefydliad Brenhinol Technoleg, a Phrifysgol Rydd Brwsel. Dilynodd Dr. Abadía ei radd Ph.D. ym Mhrifysgol Paris-Sud, gan weithio ar y cyd â CEA-Leti. Roedd Nicolás yn gymrawd ôl-ddoethurol ar y cyd yng Ngholeg y Drindod Dulyn a Phrifysgol McGill, gan weithio ar ddyfeisiau a systemau ffotoneg III-V a silicon mewn partneriaeth â Ciena, Lumentum, a Western Digital.
