Rwy'n Uwch Ddarlithydd mewn Dylunio Trefol, Cynllunio ac Astudiaethau Rhyngddiwylliannol, Cyfarwyddwr Cyd-Sefydlu y Ganolfan Ymchwil Arsyllfa Mannau Cyhoeddus a Chyd-Arweinydd Ymchwil SPACE - Cynllunio a Dadansoddi Gofodol mewn Grŵp Ymchwil Amgylcheddau Dinesig. Rwyf hefyd yn Olygydd yn Bennaeth URBAN Design International, Palgrave Journal sy'n ymroddedig i theori ac ymarfer dylunio trefol. Mae fy ymchwil yn sefyll ar groesffordd dylunio trefol, cynllunio, pensaernïaeth tirwedd, a daearyddiaeth ddynol. Rwyf wedi cyhoeddi'n eang ar ddylunio a chymdeithaseg y byd cyhoeddus gyda ffocws penodol ar arferion cymdeithasol anffurfiol mewn mannau cyhoeddus a rôl dylunio a rheoli mannau cyhoeddus wrth hyrwyddo cydlyniant cymdeithasol a deialog ryngddiwylliannol. Rwyf wedi archwilio ymhlith materion eraill sut mae arferion cymdeithasol a gweithrediaeth mewn mannau cyhoeddus yn siapio ac ailddiffinio ystyron a defnyddiau mannau cyhoeddus mewn ystod eang o gyd-destunau Ewropeaidd. Mae fy ngwaith diweddar hefyd wedi delio â mega-ddigwyddiadau fel catalyddion adfywio trefol ac adfywiad dadleuol dinasluniau modernaidd wedi'r rhyfel.
Cyn troi at y byd academaidd, gweithiais am ddegawd fel pensaer a dylunydd trefol mewn sawl practis adnabyddus rhyngwladol yn yr Iseldiroedd, Gwlad Belg, Sbaen a Phortiwgal. Cefais brofiad mewn dylunio mannau cyhoeddus, meistrgynllunio, ac wrth ddylunio ac adeiladu prosiectau ac arddangosfeydd tai ar raddfa fach, a phrosiectau pensaernïol cymhleth ar raddfa fawr fel amgueddfeydd a neuaddau cyngerdd. Yn sicr, cyfrannodd y profiad hwn at gyfoethogi fy nghefndir proffesiynol ac academaidd, ac i wneud llawer o gysylltiadau rhyngwladol ac ennill hyfedredd mewn nifer dda o ieithoedd Ewropeaidd. Yn bwysicach fyth, roedd yn fy ngwneud yn fwy sensitif i fanylebau diwylliannol polisïau ac arferion cynllunio a dylunio wrth ymgymryd ag ymchwil.

Prosiectau ymchwil cyfredol
Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n gweithio ar y prosiectau canlynol:
Canolfan Ymchwil Arsyllfa Mannau Cyhoeddus (PSO) (2019 - presennol): Ym mis Hydref 2019, mi wnes i a Dr Hesam Kamalipour o'r Ysgol Daearyddiaeth a Chynllunio (GEOPL) a Dr Nastaran Peimani o Ysgol Pensaernïaeth Cymru (WSA) gyd-sefydlodd Arsyllfa Mannau Cyhoeddus (PSO) lwyfan cyfnewid gwybodaeth mewn ymchwil, ymarfer a pholisi gofod cyhoeddus. Cenhadaeth y PSO yw dod ag academyddion, ymarferwyr a llunwyr polisi lleol, cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol ynghyd sy'n ymwneud â darparu, dylunio, rheoli a defnyddio mannau cyhoeddus. Ei brif nod yw meithrin partneriaethau a chydweithrediadau newydd, rhannu adnoddau, hyrwyddo cyfnewid gwybodaeth, grymuso cymunedau lleol trwy addysg, hyfforddiant a meithrin galluoedd, a hyrwyddo gwybodaeth flaengar mewn dylunio, rheoli a defnyddio damcaniaethau, arferion a pholisïau mewn mannau cyhoeddus.
Ymgyrch Fy/eich Gofod Cyhoeddus Caerdydd (2021 - 2023): Mae'r ymgyrch hon yn un o'n prosiectau PSO cyntaf. Ei brif nodau yw codi ymwybyddiaeth y cyhoedd o werthoedd cymdeithasol, diwylliannol, economaidd ac amgylcheddol a buddion mannau cyhoeddus sydd wedi'u cynllunio'n dda, eu defnyddio a'u rheoli'n dda. Drwy wneud hynny, mae'n anelu at hyrwyddo ymgysylltu â'r gymuned a grymuso drwy addysg, hyfforddiant a gallu i wella mannau cyhoeddus ac ymateb i ostyngiad sylweddol o wariant y sector cyhoeddus yn narpariaeth a chynnal a chadw seilwaith a gwasanaethau cyhoeddus awdurdodau lleol. Mae'r prosiect hwn yn cael ei ariannu gan Grant Effaith ESRC. Mae tîm y prosiect yn cynnwys: Patricia Aelbrecht, Wes Aelbrecht a Jessica Richmond.
Urban Design and Spaces of Encounter (2018 - presennol): Mae'r prosiect hwn yn archwilio rôl mannau cyhoeddus trefol wrth gefnogi cyfleoedd i bobl brofi, datblygu a chynnal ymdeimlad o gydlyniant cymdeithasol mewn cyd-destunau lle mae cydlyniant dan fygythiad oherwydd y gwahaniaethau diwylliannol ac economaidd cynyddol. Mae'n canolbwyntio ar dri phrosiect gofod cyhoeddus arobryn yn Copenhagen, Llundain a Rotterdam i werthuso a yw'r prosiectau gofod cyhoeddus hyn a'u dulliau dylunio wedi llwyddo i hyrwyddo cyfarfyddiadau cymdeithasol cadarnhaol a sicrhau cydlyniant cymdeithasol. Bydd yr wybodaeth a gafwyd yn cael ei defnyddio i ddarparu arweiniad i bolisïau ac arferion dylunio ar gyfer mannau cyhoeddus trefol yn y dyfodol a llywio meysydd ehangach o bolisi cymdeithasol a diwylliannol a darparu gwasanaethau. Cychwynnwyd y prosiect hwn gyda chyllid mewnol gan Ganolfan Ymchwil Dinasoedd Caerdydd ac RMIT a chyllid ERCIAA allanol, ac fe'i cynhaliwyd mewn partneriaeth ag Awdurdod Llundain Fwyaf, Grŵp Dylunio Trefol a Tibbalds Planning and Urban Design. Mae tîm y prosiect yn cynnwys: Patricia Aelbrecht, Gary Bridge, Richard Gale a Quentin Stevens (RMIT).
Pecyn Cymorth Creu Lleoedd i Gymru (2021-2023): Mae'r prosiect hwn yn gam tuag at arferion arloesol o ran creu lleoedd ar gyfer y parth cyhoeddus yng Nghymru. Ei nod yw cyd-gynhyrchu Pecyn Cymorth Mannau Cyhoeddus ar y we ar gyfer Cymru gyda phedwar ALl mewn partneriaeth â Chomisiwn Dylunio Cymru, Grŵp Dylunio Trefol a Living Streets i helpu i weithredu Agenda Creu Lleoedd Cymru . Mae tîm y prosiect yn cynnwys: Patricia Aelbrecht (PI), a Co-Is: Francesca Sartorio, Wes Aelbrecht, Richard Gale, Michael Corr, Jessica Richmond a Sanjeev Kumar, ac fe'i hariennir gan grant 'Arloesi i Bawb' gan CCAUC. Sut mae mannau cyhoeddus Llundain yn gweithredu fel seilwaith cymdeithasol? (2023-2025): Mae'r prosiect hwn yn ceisiolleihau effaith ymchwil flaenorol. Mae'n gwneud hynny trwy gryfhau cydweithrediad parhaus agAwdurdod G Reater Llundain (GLA) i brofi effeithiolrwydd dull a ddatblygwyd yn gynharach i werthuso effeithiolrwydd mannau cyhoeddus sy'n gweithredu fel seilwaith cymdeithasol, ac i ba raddau y mae'r rhain yn cyflawni'r canlyniadau a fwriadwyd ac yn cefnogi cydlyniant cymdeithasol. Mae hyn yn mynd i'r afael â diffyg cysondeb o ran sut mae seilwaith cymdeithasol yn cael ei ddeall, ei asesu, ei gynllunio a'i ddarparu ar draws awdurdodau cynllunio lleol Llundain (ACLlau) ac yn cefnogi cyflawni agenda integreiddio cymdeithasol y Maer ac agenda lefelu i fyny genedlaethol y DU. Mae'r prosiect hwn yn bartneriaeth gyda'r GLA. Mae tîm y prosiect yn cynnwys: Patricia Aelbrecht a Gary Bridge.
