Mae Leighton Andrews yn Athro Ymarfer mewn Arwain ac Arloesi Gwasanaethau Cyhoeddus yn Ysgol Busnes Caerdydd. Mae'n addysgu, ymchwilio ac ysgrifennu ym meysydd llywodraeth, arweinyddiaeth gyhoeddus ac arloesi, rheoleiddio a llywodraethu'r cyfryngau, cyfryngau cymdeithasol a digidol. Ei lyfr diweddaraf yw Ministerial Leadership: Practice, Performance and Power (Palgrave Macmillan, 2024). Mae ei lyfrau eraill yn cynnwys Facebook, y Cyfryngau a Democratiaeth, (Routledge, 2019); Gweinidog Addysg (Parthian, 2014) a Wales Says Do (Seren, 1999).
Yn gyn Weinidog Addysg a Sgiliau a'r Gweinidog Gwasanaethau Cyhoeddus yn Llywodraethau Llafur Cymru o 2009-16, ac yn Ddirprwy Weinidog rhwng 2007-9. Bu'n Aelod Cynulliad dros y Rhondda o 2003-16.
Cyn iddo gael ei ethol i'r Cynulliad Cenedlaethol yn 2003, roedd Leighton wedi cael gyrfa lwyddiannus yn y sectorau preifat, cyhoeddus a gwirfoddol. Ef oedd Pennaeth Materion Cyhoeddus y BBC yn Llundain o 1993-1996 yn ystod ei ymgyrch Adnewyddu Siarter. Roedd yn rhedeg nifer o fusnesau yn y maes cysylltiadau cyhoeddus a sefydlu ei fusnes ei hun ar ôl gadael y BBC.
Bu'n cadeirio'r Tasglu Newyddion Digidol ar gyfer Llywydd y Cynulliad Cenedlaethol a adroddodd ym mis Mehefin 2017. Yn 2022 daeth yn aelod o Grŵp Llywio Comisiynydd Cenedlaethau'r Dyfodol ar sut mae Llywodraeth Cymru yn gweithredu Deddf Llesiant Cenedlaethau'r Dyfodol. Mae'n aelod o Fwrdd Golygyddol y Journal of Public Affairs.Mae wedi bod yn gadeirydd Sefydliad Cymunedol Clwb Pêl-droed Dinas Caerdydd ers 2017.

Addysgu
Mae Leighton wedi dysgu ystod eang o fodiwlau mewn arweinyddiaeth gyhoeddus a gwleidyddiaeth.
Datblygodd ac addysgu modiwl gwleidyddiaeth ôl-raddedig Government from the Inside: from the Minister's View for Masters courses in Politics. O 2024 ymlaen bydd yn addysgu modiwl newydd ond cysylltiedig Gweinidogion yn y Gwaith a modiwl newydd Straeon Gwleidyddol.
Cyd-ddatblygodd yr MSc Gweithredol mewn Arweinyddiaeth Gyhoeddus a dysgodd y modiwl Arwain Polisi i Gyflawni. Datblygodd ar y cyd a chyflwyno'r modiwl ar y cyd ar Gynllunio Strategol ac Arloesi ar y Diploma mewn Cynllunio GIG.
Yn 2019 fe wnaeth ddatblygu a chyflwyno modiwl ar y cyd ar Arweinyddiaeth, Arloesi a Change ar gyfer rhaglen Graddedigion Cymru gyfan Academi Cymru a gyflwynwyd drwy Brifysgol De Cymru.
Yn 2018 a 2020 bu'n dysgu ar y cwrs arweinyddiaeth weithredol ar gyfer Academi Cyllid GIG Cymru.
O 2018-2020 bu'n dysgu modiwl Amgylchedd Busnes Rhyngwladol ar yr MSc mewn Rheolaeth Ryngwladol yn Ysgol Busnes Caerdydd.
Mae hefyd yn cyfrannu darlithoedd gwadd i amrywiaeth o raglenni eraill ar draws y Celfyddydau, y Dyniaethau a'r Gwyddorau Cymdeithasol.
