Y fantell yw cronfa ddŵr fwyaf y Ddaear, sy'n cynnwys 67% o'i màs. Mae astudio ei esblygiad thermocemegol trwy amser yn allweddol i'n dealltwriaeth o tectoneg platiau a thwf cyfandirol. Mae gan gyfnewidfeydd mantell crwst oblygiadau uniongyrchol hefyd ar y digonedd o ddŵr yn y gorffennol a'r presennol a bywyd arall sy'n cynnal folatilau ar wyneb y Ddaear.
Yn fy ngwaith, rwy'n defnyddio ac yn cynhyrchu data geocemegol ar lafas sy'n deillio o fantell gyda ffocws ar isotopau radiogenig, gyda'r nod o gyfyngu maint, natur ac oedran heterogenedd cyfansoddiad mantell ar y raddfa leol a byd-eang. I ddehongli'r data hyn, rwy'n dylunio modelau geocemegol cwbl feintiol sy'n integreiddio'r nifer o brosesau daearegol sy'n llywodraethu'r system mantell-gramen.
