Malcolm Beynon is Professor of Uncertain Reasoning and Business Analytics at Cardiff

Professor Beynon holds a BSc (first class) and PhD in pure mathematics from Cardiff University. His research involves the development of novel analytic techniques, as well as the progression and application of existing techniques. He is an internationally recognized expert in the uncertain reasoning methodology, which he applies across all areas of management (as well as other disciplines).  Incorporating fuzzy set theory and Dempster-Shafer theory, the methodology acknowledges uncertainty in analysis (including in data the notions of incompleteness, ignorance and ambiguity etc.).

Recent research includes: · Indexing third stream activities in UK universities: exploring the entrepreneurial/enterprising university · Examining the existence of double jeopardy and negative double jeopardy within Twitter · A NCaRBS analysis of SME intended innovation: learning about the Don't Knows · Country-based comparative analysis using fsQCA investigating entrepreneurial attitudes and activity · Measuring and understanding the differences between urban and rural areas · Evaluating the performance of airports using an integrated AHP/DEA-AR technique.

His work has been published across a wide range of journals, including: Studies in Higher Education · Journal of Business Research · OMEGA (The International Journal of Management Science) · European Journal of Marketing · Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory · European Journal of Operations Research · Computational and Mathematical Organization Theory · Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting ·  Fuzzy Sets and Systems · Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering · Environment and Planning A, B and C · Transport Policy · IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics Part A: Systems and humans · Journal of Biomechanics · Bulletin of Mathematical Biology
