Cathy teaches on MA News Journalism and is an NCTJ qualified journalist. Cathy is fresh from a long career in newspaper management where she specialised in production journalism, training, recruitment and strategy.

Cathy teaches at postgraduate level, specialising in production journalism, news writing, vocational training and employability.

Cathy spent most of her career as Deputy Editor of Wales's largest-selling newspaper, the South Wales Evening Post in Swansea, including a spell as Acting Editor.

During this time she sat on the Strategy Board of Swansea University's Employability Academy. She also did a stint as Editor of the Carmarthen Journal and before that was the youngest person and first woman to be Chief Sub-Editor of the Post.

Cathy has also worked at Media Wales, Cardiff, and at Newsquest in Newport where she devised and delivered training in production journalism.

In December 2008 she was awarded the NCTJ's first Chairman's Award for her work on production journalism training. She also sat on the Qualifications Board of the NCTJ and on the Training Committee of the Society of Editors

Cathy enjoyed a long working relationship with the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies before taking up this post and was External Examiner on its Postgraduate Newspaper Diploma for several years.
