Trosolwyg
Rwy'n ysgolhaig trefol rhyngddisgyblaethol sydd â diddordeb mewn archwiliad beirniadol a chreadigol o ddylunio gofodol, dinasoedd a phensaernïaeth. Mae fy ymchwil ar groesffordd arferion gofodol, theori gymdeithasol, ac athroniaeth wleidyddol. Rwy'n canolbwyntio ar y berthynas rhwng gwleidyddiaeth ac estheteg, hanes a phŵer, a ffasgaeth a threfoledd.
Yn fy monograff ymchwil diweddaraf Ruined Skylines: Aesthetics, Politics and London Towering Cityscape (Routledge, 2020; clawr meddal 2021) rwy'n archwilio'r gorwel trefol fel gofod ar gyfer gwleidyddiaeth radical. Gan ddatblygu beirniadaeth o adeiladu tyrau mwy a mwy hapfasnachol yn ogystal â beirniadaeth o'r honiad bod y tyrau hyn yn difetha'r ddinaslun hanesyddol, rwy'n archwilio adfail fel addasiad gwleidyddol o'r ddinaslun wedi'i addasu a'i gyllido ac yn dadlau dros ail-lunio gwleidyddiaeth drefol fel celfyddyd o'r bosibl.
Mewn prosiectau cyfredol, rwy'n archwilio gofodau awdurdodol asgell dde sy'n israddol gwahaniaeth i weledigaeth ganolog, trais harddwch trefol, a dychymyg trefol ffasgaidd 'dinas ôl-ras'. Yn ogystal, rwy'n gweithio ar brosiect llyfrau gyda'r teitl rhagarweiniol Antifa Urbanism lle rwy'n archwilio gwrthffasgaeth yn yr Almaen, y DU a'r Unol Daleithiau fel anryddfrydwr (yn hytrach na rhyddfrydol neu wrth-ryddfrydol) ac yn pratice gofodol rhyddhaol. Rhan o'r prosiect hwn yw ymchwiliadau i antifascism queer yn y 1970au a gwrthffasgaeth chwyldroadol yn y 1990au.
Rwyf hefyd yn cydweithio ag Archif Walter Benjamin yn Academi Celfyddydau Berlin, Swyddfa Cyfathrebu Trefol Poligonal, a'r Amgueddfa Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf ar Brosiect Benjamin Berlin. Mae'r prosiect hwn yn coffáu Walter Benjamin yn Berlin ac yn archwilio ffyrdd eraill o gofio'r cyhoedd. Gan ddatblygu llwyfan canllaw sain a churadu ymyriadau mannau cyhoeddus, mae'n archwilio bywyd Benjamin a'i waith ar ddinasoedd modern i ddatrys y broblem o addasu bywyd trefol a rôl creadigrwydd wrth wrthweithio patrymau meddwl ffasgaidd yn y ddinas gyfoes.
Fi yw'r arweinydd ymchwil rhyngddisgyblaethol yn yr Ysgol Daearyddiaeth a Chynllunio ac yn gyd-sylfaenydd Ymchwil Rhyngddisgyblaethol CIRAF–Caerdydd ar Antifascism a'r dde eithaf, sy'n rhwydwaith ymchwil sy'n rhychwantu chwe ysgol yng Ngholeg y Celfyddydau, y Dyniaethau a'r Gwyddorau Cymdeithasol. Ymunais â'r Ysgol yn 2016 a chyn hynny dysgais ym Mhrifysgol y Celfyddydau Llundain, Central Saint Martins, yn yr Adran Gymdeithaseg yn Ysgol Economeg Llundain. Cyn fy ngyrfa academaidd bûm yn ymarfer fel pensaer yn Fienna, Barcelona a Llundain.

Ymchwil
Mae fy ymchwil yn torri ar draws ffiniau disgyblaethol i ymchwilio i'r berthynas rhwng gwleidyddiaeth a dylunio. Mae fy ngwaith yn cyfrannu at dri phrif faes.
Gwleidyddiaeth ac Estheteg: Mae fy ngwaith yn ymestyn dadleuon ynghylch gwleidyddiaeth estheteg a dimensiwn esthetig gwleidyddiaeth radical. Mae gen i ddiddordeb arbennig mewn agweddau democrataidd ar brosesau a ffurfiau esthetig ac rwyf wedi astudio adeiladu tyrau hapfasnachol yn Llundain ac, yn fwy diweddar, estheteg isadeileddau trefol. Cyhoeddwyd yr ymchwil hon mewn monograff, Ruined Skylines: Aesthetics, Politics and London's Towering Cityscape (a adolygwyd yn Astudiaethau Trefol, LSE Review of Books, Cultural Geographies), yn ogystal ag mewn nifer o erthyglau cyfnodolion. Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n gweithio gyda chydweithwyr ar brosiect ar Drais o Harddwch Trefol.
Theori Trefol Beirniadol: Rwy'n cyfrannu at ddatblygiadau newydd mewn theori feirniadol trwy lens cyflyrau trefol cyfoes. Rwyf wedi canolbwyntio ar astudio gwaith damcaniaethwyr beirniadol sy'n gysylltiedig ag Ysgol Frankfurt a Walter Benjamin yn arbennig. Ysgrifennais ar ei 'ddull monadolegol', ac rwy'n archwilio dinasluniau baróc wedi'u haddasu a'u hariannu, y berthynas rhwng montages llenyddol a dinasluniau democrataidd, a gofodau o ddarnio a dieithrio cymdeithasol. Cyhoeddwyd yr ymchwil hon mewn sawl erthygl mewn cyfnodolion ac mewn penodau llyfrau (e.e. Y Ditectif Moderniaeth; Delweddu dinas sanctaidd). Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n dechrau prosiect cydweithredol newydd ar wenith ar-lein.
Ffasgiaeth, hil, a materoldeb: Mewn cyfnod pan fo'r dde eithafol ar gynnydd, mae'r dde eithafol yn dod yn fwyfwy prif ffrwd, ac mae'n ymddangos bod arweinwyr awtocrataidd yn ddirwystr mewn llawer o wledydd 'democrataidd', mae'r gwaith hwn yn archwilio gofodau asgell dde ac amseroedd gofod awdurdodaidd sy'n israddol gwahaniaeth i weledigaeth ganolog. Gan gymryd hanes Benjamin o ffasgaeth fel 'esthetigeiddio gwleidyddiaeth' a gwaith Deleuze a Guattari ar y grefft o fyw yn groes i bob math o ffasgaeth fel mannau cychwyn, mae gennyf ddiddordeb arbennig mewn archwilio dychymyg ffasgaidd dinas ôl-hil yn erbyn antifascism fel arfer gofodol anrhyddfrydol a gwahanol fathau o wrthffasgwyr gofod trefol (gwirioneddol a rhithwir).
Addysgu
In the Academic Year 2016/17 I lead and teach the two modules CPT771 Urban Design Thinkers and CPT910 Autumn Studio. I contribute to the modules CPT852 Urban Design Foundation and CPT805 Site Planning, Design and Development. I also supervise postgraduate dissertation students and co-supervise a doctoral thesis on the topic of urban conflicts and the transformative potential of dissensus.
I am interested in supervising additional PhD students who work on social, cultural and political aspects of architecture and urban design and who have an interest in Critical Theory and Political Philosophy.
