Ymchwil
Mae fy ymchwil presennol yn canolbwyntio ar hanes athroniaeth (yn enwedig y traddodiad ôl-Kantian), moeseg, estheteg ac athroniaeth amgylcheddol. Mae llawer o'm gwaith cyhoeddedig wedi canolbwyntio ar feddwl Nietzsche a Schopenhauer, ac mae gen i ddiddordeb mewn sut y gall syniadau'r athronwyr hyn - ymhlith eraill yn y 19eg ganrif - wneud cyfraniadau cadarnhaol mewn parthau axiolegol cyfoes.

Mae fy llyfr Nietzsche's Struggle Against Pessimism (Gwasg Prifysgol Caergrawnt, 2023) yn ymchwiliad i le Nietzsche yn y Pessimismusstreit neu 'pesimism dispute' o 1860-1900. Mae'n ceisio egluro a chwalu gwahanol feirniadaethau Nietzsche o'r farn nad yw bywyd yn werth ei fyw, neu fod peidio â bodolaeth yn well i fodoli. Mae'n gwneud hynny, yn rhannol, trwy roi beirniadaeth esblygol Nietzsche yn ôl i'w gyd-destun hanesyddol priodol trwy ystyried ei honiadau echeliolegol ac epistemig mewn deialog â'i gydlynwyr o'r 19eg ganrif. Rwy'n dadlau bod diddordeb Nietzsche gydol ei yrfa yn y cwestiwn o werth bywyd yn gefndir ffrwythlon ar gyfer ystyried themâu mwy cyfarwydd yn ei athroniaeth (e.e. cyfiawnhad esthetig, ailadrodd tragwyddol, ewyllys i bŵer, ei feirniadaeth o foesoldeb Cristnogol).
Mewn erthyglau, rwy'n parhau i weithio ar themâu sy'n berthnasol i besimistiaeth athronyddol a'r prosiect gwrthwynebol o gadarnhad bywyd. Rwyf hefyd yn parhau i ymchwilio i athroniaeth Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, a ffigurau eraill o'r 19eg ganrif yn ehangach.

Fy mhrosiect mawr nesaf yw monograff sy'n ceisio gosod prosiect moesegol Schopenhauer o fewn y traddodiad sentimentalist moesol. Ceisiaf ddangos sut y gall darllen Schopenhauer yn agosach ochr yn ochr â phobl fel Hume, Hutcheson, Shaftesbury, Herder a Herder, fod yn ffrwythlon am ddeall yn llawn ei farn gynnil ar faterion perthnasol fel cymhelliant moesol, osgoi amheuaeth foesol, cyfiawnhau ein safbwyntiau moesol, a chwmpas y gymuned foesol - safbwyntiau sy'n aml yn cael eu datblygu, rwy'n dadlau, fel ymatebion i'r hyn y mae'n ei ystyried yn ddiffygion gyda'r swyddi priodol a gynigir gan resymegwyr moesol a moesol blaenorol. sentimentalists fel ei gilydd.
