Mae Arne Hintz yn Ddarllenydd yn Ysgol Newyddiaduraeth, y Cyfryngau a Diwylliant Caerdydd (JOMEC), Cyfarwyddwr Ymchwil Ôl-raddedig, a Chyd-Gyfarwyddwr y Lab Cyfiawnder Data.
Mae ei ymchwil yn canolbwyntio ar arferion ac amodau dinasyddiaeth ddigidol, gan gyfuno gwaith ar actifiaeth y cyfryngau, polisi cyfathrebu, a datafication. Mae ei ymchwil fwyaf cyfredol yn archwilio llwybrau ar gyfer cyfranogiad gwell gan y dinesydd mewn llywodraethu data ac AI. Mae wedi arwain nifer o brosiectau ymchwil cydweithredol ac aml-flwyddyn, gan gynnwys Digital Citizenship and Surveillance Society: UK State-Media-Citizen Relations After the Snowden Leaks (2014-16), Towards Democratic Auditing: Civic Participation in the Scoring Society (2018-20), a Democrateiddio'r Gymdeithas Datafied (2021-23).
Mae ei gyhoeddiadau'n cynnwys y llyfrau cyd-awdur a chyd-olygwyd Data Justice (Sage, 2022), Digital Citizenship in a Datafied Society (Polity, 2019), Beyond WikiLeaks: Implications for the Future of Communications, Journalism & Society (Palgrave, 2013) a Civil Society Media and Global Governance (Lit, 2009), sawl rhifyn arbennig cyfnodolyn, a nifer fawr o erthyglau cyfnodolion yn ogystal â phenodau mewn cyfrolau a llawlyfrau amlwg wedi'u golygu.
Mae'n Gyd-gadeirydd Gweithgor Polisi Cyfryngau Byd-eang Cymdeithas Ryngwladol Ymchwil y Cyfryngau a Chyfathrebu (IAMCR), ac mae wedi gweithio fel arbenigwr ac ymgynghorydd gyda mentrau eiriolaeth fel Fforwm Cyfryngau Cymunedol Ewrop (CMFE) a'r Grŵp Hawliau Agored (ORG), a phrosesau'r Cenhedloedd Unedig megis Uwchgynhadledd y Byd ar y Gymdeithas Wybodaeth (WSIS).
Mae Arne Hintz wedi gweithio mewn sawl sefydliad academaidd a chyfryngau cyn ymuno â JOMEC ym mis Hydref 2012. Cwblhaodd MA mewn Economi Wleidyddol Ryngwladol ym Mhrifysgol Warwick, y DU, a PhD mewn Gwyddor Wleidyddol yn Hamburg, yr Almaen. Yna gweithiodd fel Cyfarwyddwr Rhaglen Canolfan Astudiaethau Cyfryngau a Chyfathrebu (CMCS) ym Mhrifysgol Canol Ewrop (CEU) yn Budapest, ac roedd yn Gymrawd Ôl-ddoethurol ym Mhrifysgol McGill ym Montreal. Yn ogystal â'i gefndir academaidd, mae ganddo brofiad mewn newyddiaduraeth, papur newydd ac ar-lein, ac mewn cysylltiadau cyhoeddus. Fel gweithredwr cyfryngau, mae wedi gwirfoddoli gyda radios cymunedol ac wedi helpu i sefydlu prosiectau ar-lein fel Indymedia.
