Kul Luintel joined Cardiff Business School (CARBS) as a Professor of Economics in September 2006.

From 2012 to 2015 he was the Head of the Economics Section (Department) and a Member of the Management Board of CARBS. 2008 to 2013 he was the Senior Rep of Economics to the Research Committee of CARBS.

He was one of the named REF (Research Excellence Framework) GURUs of CARBS, leading REF submissions for 2014. He was a member of CHUDE (Conference of Heads of UK Departments of Economics) between 2012 to 2015 and currently a member of the Executive Committee of CHUDE. Before moving to Cardiff he held professorial positions at Swansea and Brunel Universities.

His general research interests are macro, money and finance. He has published widely in the areas of Financial Development, Financial Structure and Economic Growth; Financial Controls, Economic Growth and the Productivity of Capital; The Dynamics of Innovation and Endogenous Growth; R&D and International Knowledge Diffusion;  Fiscal Solvency; Fiscal Integration in the EU; Real Exchange Rate Behaviour; Exogeneity of Money; Spot and Forward Market Efficiency; Fisher Relationship, and Executive Stock Options. He is a member of the Royal Economic Society, American Economic Association, European Economic Association, Canadian Economics Association, Southern Economic Association and Beta Gamma Sigma, an Honour Society.  Kul received his MPhil (1990) and PhD (1993) from Glasgow University.
