Yn fy swydd academaidd, rwy'n addysgu'r modiwl craidd 2il flwyddyn, Cyflwyniad i Ffiseg Mater Cyddwys. Ymchwil
Mae ffocws fy ymchwil dros y ddau ddegawd diwethaf wedi bod ar ryngweithio mater ysgafn, yn fwy penodol y ffiseg cwantwm y tu ôl i'r rhyngweithiadau hyn.
Yn ystod fy saith mlynedd gyntaf fel ymchwilydd ôl-ddoethurol yn Labordy Cavendish, gweithiais ar eiddo is-goch a THz deunyddiau lled-ddargludyddion, gyda'r nod o ddeall a yw'n bosibl peiriannu laser rhaeadru cwantwm sy'n seiliedig ar silicon. Fy mhapurau 2002/2003 ar electroluminescence intersubband THz o strwythurau rhaeadru cwantwm SiGe, oedd y cyntaf yn y byd o hyd a nhw yw'r gweithiau a ddyfynnir fwyaf yn y maes.
Ar ôl i mi symud i Ganolfan Nanodechnoleg Llundain yn UCL, symudodd ffocws fy ngwaith ychydig, tuag at ecsbloetio priodweddau THz atomau rhoddwyr Grŵp V mewn silicon ar gyfer technolegau cwantwm. Perfformiwyd llawer o'r gwaith hwn yng nghyfleuster laser electronau rhydd FELIX yn yr Iseldiroedd. Uchafbwynt yr ymchwil hwn oedd fy mhapur Natur 2010, sy'n cynrychioli datblygiad arloesol ym maes cyfrifiadura cwantwm sy'n seiliedig ar silicon.
Pan symudais i Gaerdydd fe wnaeth ffocws fy ngwaith symud ychydig eto, tuag at donfeddi byrrach. Gellir trin rhoddwyr Chalcogen (Group-VI) mewn silicon gyda golau is-goch canol-goch mwy egnïol. Ariannwyd y gwaith hwn gan Ymddiriedolaeth Leverhulme. Ehangais fy niddordebau ymchwil hefyd i archwilio priodweddau electronig ac optegol deunyddiau ocsid tryloyw (mewn cydweithrediad â Chaergrawnt). Yn fwy diweddar rwyf wedi bod yn gweithio ar excitons Rydberg yn cuprous oxide. Mae'r pwnc hynod ddiddorol hwn yn pontio'r bwlch rhwng lled-ddargludyddion a ffiseg atomig. Ariennir y gwaith gan yr EPSRC ac fe'i gwneir mewn cydweithrediad â fy nghydweithwyr agos ym Mhrifysgol Durham. Mae gen i ddiddordeb hefyd yn nodweddion optegol diemwnt ac mae dau fyfyriwr PhD o dan fy oruchwyliaeth wedi cael eu hariannu gan De Beers.

Dechreuodd fy ngyrfa ymchwil ôl-ddoethurol ymuno â grŵp yr Athro Syr Mike Pepper yn Labordy Cavendish, ar ddechrau 2000, yn dilyn amddiffyn fy PhD yn llwyddiannus yng Ngholeg y Drindod Dulyn. Etholwyd fi wedyn i Gymrodoriaeth Ymchwil yng Ngholeg St Edmund, Caergrawnt, yn 2002. Yn ystod y cyfnod hwn gweithiais ar ddatblygu dyfeisiau rhaeadru cwantwm SiGe pell-is-goch (THz).
Yn 2007 ymunais â Chanolfan Nanodechnoleg Llundain yng Ngholeg Prifysgol Llundain, gan weithio'n gyntaf o dan y diweddar Athro Marshall Stoneham FRS, ac yn ddiweddarach yr Athro Gabriel Aeppli FRS. Dyfarnwyd Cymrodoriaeth Ymchwil Uwch EPSRC i mi weithio ar ffiseg allyriadau is-goch pell o led-ddargludyddion doped amhurdeb yn ddiweddarach y flwyddyn honno.
Symudais i Brifysgol Caerdydd ganol 2011 i swydd academaidd denured, yn gyntaf fel Uwch Ddarlithydd cyn cael fy nyrchafu i gadair bersonol. Cefais fy mhenodi'n Ddeon Ymchwil Cysylltiol Coleg y Gwyddorau Ffisegol a Pheirianneg yn 2018, ac wedyn yn Ddeon Ymchwil ac Arloesi ar gyfer Coleg y Gwyddorau Ffisegol a Pheirianneg yn 2020, yn dilyn cystadleuaeth agored.
