Darlithydd
Trosolwg
Rwy'n gweithio fel Darlithydd mewn Epidemioleg Clefydau Heintus / Gwyddor Ymddygiadol yn Uned Firoleg Gymhwysol Cymru (WAVU).
Rwy'n epidemiolegydd clefydau heintus ac ecolegydd clefydau sy'n defnyddio modelau mathemategol, ystadegol a chyfrifiadurol i ddeall trosglwyddiad a deinameg clefydau heintus. Mae gen i gefndir mewn mathemateg, cyfrifiadura ac ecoleg/epidemioleg. Yn fy ngwaith blaenorol, rwyf wedi astudio epidemioleg a deinameg clefydau firaol gan gynnwys cynddaredd cŵn, ffliw, SARS-CoV-2, y frech wen a dengue, yn ogystal â marwolaethau a morbidrwydd yn fwy cyffredinol. Gweler y tab Ymchwil am waith cyfredol.
Rwyf hefyd yn Uwch Ddarlithydd ym Mhrifysgol Glasgow ac yn gweithio'n rhan-amser ym mhob rôl.

Ymchwil
Gellir categoreiddio fy ngwaith presennol fel epidemiolegydd yn dair prif thema: heterogeneities mewn trosglwyddo clefydau heintus, Un Iechyd, a chlefydau heintus ac anghydraddoldebau iechyd dros y tymor hir.
- Lluosogi symptomau a heterogeneities mewn trosglwyddo pathogen. Mae gen i ddiddordeb mewn heterogeneities mewn trosglwyddo pathogenau a'u heffaith ar ddeinameg clefydau heintus. Er enghraifft, ar hyn o bryd rwy'n gweithio gydag Ed Hill ym Mhrifysgol Lerpwl a Matt Keeling a Phoebe Asplin ym Mhrifysgol Warwick, ar ddeall goblygiadau epidemiolegol 'lluosogi symptomau', term a gyflwynwyd gennym i ddal y syniad bod setiau symptomau yn tueddu i ledaenu ochr yn ochr â throsglwyddo pathogenau o ganlyniad i fecanweithiau trosglwyddo (gweler y cyhoeddiadau). Dangosodd fy ngwaith cynharach gyda Katie Hampson a gyhoeddwyd yn Science sut mae cynddaredd cŵn yn parhau ar gyffredinrwydd isel, yn rhannol oherwydd heterogeneities mewn trosglwyddo. Mae gen i ddiddordeb hefyd mewn cydberthynas rhwng deori a chyfnodau heintus, ac effeithiau tebyg.
- Effaith iechyd pobl a da byw ar anghydraddoldeb. Mewn cydweithrediad â chydweithwyr yn y gwyddorau cymdeithasol (economeg yn bennaf), rwyf wedi bod yn gweithio ar brosiectau sy'n anelu at ddeall achosion sylfaenol anghydraddoldebau. Rydym wedi bod yn gweithio gyda'r NGO Cyfeillion Llyn Turkana a chymunedau bugeiliol Turkana yng Ngogledd Kenya i ddadansoddi data arolwg i ddeall pwysigrwydd da byw a risg iechyd dynol ar gyfer anghydraddoldebau. Mae'r gwaith hwn mewn cydweithrediad â Konstantinos Angelopoulos (Prifysgol Glasgow), Spyridon Lazarakis (Prifysgol Caerhirfryn) a Dorice Agol (LSE). Gyda Konstantinos a dau gyn-fyfyriwr PhD (Gill Stewart a Siqi Qiao), rydym hefyd yn gweithio gyda data archif o Glasgow a Nancy (Ffrainc), mewn cydweithrediad â chydweithwyr yn Archifau Dinas Glasgow a'r Archives municipales de Nancy, i ddeall ysgogwyr anghydraddoldebau marwolaethau ac effeithiau marwolaethau ar anghydraddoldeb yn y cyfnod cyn y wladwriaeth les.
- Clefydau heintus ac anghydraddoldebau iechyd dros y tymor hir. Rwy'n hoffi defnyddio data hanesyddol i ddeall cwestiynau sylfaenol sy'n ymwneud â dynameg ac ecoleg clefydau heintus sy'n dal i fod yn berthnasol heddiw. Er enghraifft, y trawsnewidiad epidemiolegol yw'r llwyddiant iechyd cyhoeddus mwyaf y mae'r byd wedi'i wybod erioed, felly mae'n bwysig deall sut mae'n gweithio. Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n astudio gwahaniaethau yn amseriad y trawsnewidiad epidemiolegol rhwng ardaloedd bach o ddinasoedd gyda Konstantinos Angelopoulos, a Gillian Stewart (Prifysgol Glasgow) a Siqi Qiao (Prifysgol Zhejiang); rydym hefyd yn gweithio ar y cyd â Tim Riswick (Prifysgol Radboud) a chydweithwyr fel rhan o'r prosiect Great Leap a ariennir gan yr UE ar y gwaith hwn. Gyda Thomas Crellen yn UCM Singapore, rwy'n gweithio ar syniadau tebyg gan ddefnyddio data o gofnodion trefedigaethol sy'n caniatáu inni gymharu clefydau a'u deinameg ar draws rhannau helaeth o'r byd, mewn rhai achosion, mor bell yn ôl â 1830 (ac felly i raddau helaeth cyn meddygaeth fodern). Rwyf wedi cyhoeddi gwaith ar ddeinameg y ffliw yn dilyn pandemigau hanesyddol ers 1838, gan ddatgelu patrwm o achosion ailadroddus am sawl degawd ar ôl y prif donnau. Rwyf wedi gweithio ar rôl profiad blaenorol o achosion lleol o glefydau ar wrthod brechu, gan ddefnyddio gwybodaeth am ddigwyddiadau sy'n ymwneud â'r frech wen a greodd 'arbrawf naturiol' yn Glasgow, y DU. Mae'r gwaith hwn yn defnyddio data archif hanesyddol a modelu cyfrifiadurol, mathemategol ac ystadegol, ochr yn ochr â dadansoddiad hanesyddol.
Bywgraffiad
Mae gen i radd israddedig mewn Mathemateg (gyda blwyddyn intercalated yn yr Université de Genève) o Brifysgol Warwick yn 2000.
