Rwy'n angerddol am ddeall sut mae llygryddion - yn enwedig plastigau a'u hychwanegion cysylltiedig - yn effeithio ar ecosystemau dyfrol, gyda ffocws cryf ar gynefinoedd dŵr croyw. Ers cwblhau fy PhD, rwyf wedi defnyddio dulliau rhyngddisgyblaethol i ymchwilio i sut mae ystod eang o straen anthropogenig, gan gynnwys llygredd plastig, ewtroffeiddio, ymyriadau dyframaethu, a chlefydau heintus, yn dylanwadu ar les organebau dyfrol.
Diddordebau ymchwil allweddol:
-
Effeithiau straen rhyngweithiol lluosog ar ymddygiad, ffisioleg a gwrthsefyll clefydau organebau dŵr croyw
-
Asesiad tocsicoleg o blastigau a'u hychwanegion cysylltiedig
-
Penderfynu a yw amgen plastig ac amnewidyddion deunydd yn amgylcheddol fwy diogel na phlastigau confensiynol

Pysgod plastig: asesu graddfa, priodweddau cemegol, ac effeithiau biolegol plastigau petrocemegol ac amnewidion plastig a dewisiadau amgen deunydd ar bysgod dŵr croyw
Mae gan y prosiect hwn ddau nod eang: defnyddio dadansoddiad polymer blaengar i ymchwilio i raddfa, a phriodweddau biocemegol polymerau plastig mewn dyframaethu ac ymchwilio i effeithiau is-set o'r plastigau cyffredin hyn ac ychwanegion cemegol cysylltiedig ar iechyd pysgod. Amcanion penodol:
1) Arolwg plastig: nodi a maint halogiad plastig yng nghyfleusterau dyframaethu dŵr croyw y DU.
2) Plastigau petrocemegol: pennu gallu arsugniad cemegol a desorption microplastigau mewn perthynas â plastigwyr, sefydlogwyr thermol, a thocsinau dyfrol yn ogystal â deall eu heffeithiau ar dwf pysgod dyframaethu, metaboledd, ymwrthedd i glefydau a mecanweithiau moleciwlaidd sylfaenol.
3) Plastigau bioseiliedig: pennu diraddadwyedd, arsugniad a gallu desorption plastigau biobased (hy, bioplastigau) o'i gymharu â phlastigau petrocemegol mewn amgylcheddau dyfrol a'u heffeithiau biolegol ar iechyd pysgod.
Themâu Ymchwil Eang
Dyframaethu: gyda'n partner diwydiant Adisseo-Nutriad, rwyf wedi ymchwilio i sut mae porthiant wedi'i gyfnerthu yn effeithio ar ymwrthedd i glefydau mewn pysgod. Wrth ddatblygu a phrofi porthiant cyfyngedig, mae dyframaethu yn mynd i'r afael â strategaethau ataliol a rheoli sy'n disodli'r dull traddodiadol o driniaethau cemegol.
Masnach addurniadol: mae fy ymchwil wedi canolbwyntio ar sut mae straen amrywiol gan gynnwys straen trafnidiaeth, amddifadedd cyfoethogi a llygredd sŵn yn effeithio ar ffisioleg, ymddygiad a gwrthsefyll clefydau pysgod. Gyda physgod yw'r anifeiliaid anwes mwyaf poblog mewn aelwydydd gorllewinol, mae ymchwil sylfaenol o'r fath yn cynnig mewnwelediadau i sut y gallai straen esgeuluso fod yn effeithio ar les pysgod. Mae'r technegau a ddefnyddir yn cynnwys dadansoddi ymddygiad, respirometreg a parasitoleg arbrofol.
Ecosystemau: gan ddefnyddio dull rhyngddisgyblaethol, rwy'n ymchwilio i sut mae llygryddion ecosystemau amrywiol fel microplastigau a chwynladdwyr yn effeithio ar les pysgod dŵr croyw. Yma, rwyf wedi tynnu ar wahanol dechnegau gan gynnwys sbectrosgopeg NMR, dadansoddiad trawsgrifiog, a parasitoleg arbrofol.
