Ymchwil
Gwaith blaenorol: Ymchwiliais i iechyd meddwl lleiafrifoedd rhywiol (h.y., y rhai sy'n nodi eu bod yn lesbiaidd, hoyw neu ddeurywiol) yn Nigeria. Yn debyg i'r hyn sydd wedi'i ddarganfod mewn gwledydd eraill, canfûm gyfraddau uwch o anawsterau iechyd meddwl ymhlith lleiafrifoedd rhywiol o'u cymharu ag unigolion heterorywiol. Yn ystod fy PhD, estynnais y llinell ymchwil hon gan ddefnyddio data'r Ffindir a'r DU a'r dyluniad deublyg (gan ymgorffori sgoriau polygenig) i ddangos bod cyfraddau uwch o anawsterau iechyd meddwl ymhlith lleiafrifoedd rhywiol yn cael eu hesbonio'n well gan gysylltiadau achosol yn hytrach na dylanwadau achosegol a rennir (e.e. geneteg). Canfûm hefyd fod y cysylltiadau hyn yn cael eu dylanwadu gan brofiadau plentyndod a nodweddion megis anghydffurfiaeth rhywedd ac adfyd bywyd cynnar. Yn dilyn hynny, dechreuais ymddiddori yn y modd y mae anawsterau iechyd meddwl yn datblygu h.y. plentyndod a phobl ifanc.
Gwaith cyfredol: Ar ôl hynny, enillais gymrodoriaeth academaidd glinigol ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd i'm galluogi i ennill arbenigedd clinigol ac ymchwil mewn seiciatreg plant a phobl ifanc. I gydnabod y cyfraddau isel o ymchwil i iechyd meddwl genetig a phobl ifanc mewn lleoliadau incwm isel a chanolig, rwy'n edrych ymlaen at ddefnyddio dyluniadau genetig sensitif fel y dull deublyg i ymchwilio i ryngchwarae risg genetig ac amgylcheddol a ffactorau amddiffynnol mewn seicopatholeg yn ystod plentyndod a glasoed. Ar hyn o bryd, rwy'n cynnal astudiaethau peilot ymhlith efeilliaid glasoed a'u mamau yn Nigeria i ymchwilio i'w canfyddiad o iechyd meddwl ac ymchwil genetig. Rwyf hefyd yn paratoi i ddechrau astudiaeth beilot wedi'i hariannu ymhlith efeilliaid ifanc yn Nigeria a'u rhieni gyda ffocws ar anawsterau iechyd meddwl cyffredin a dichonoldeb cynnal ymchwil gefell mewn gwlad incwm isel / canol.
