I qualified as a physiotherapist in 1984. I especially enjoyed the challenges of Stroke Rehabilitation, working as a Senior I Physiotherapist in Stroke Care from 1989 to 1996. I joined the teaching staff at the Physiotherapy school in Cardiff in 1996. I completed my MSc dissertation in 2000. My thesis was the investigation of patterns of activity in muscles controlling the pelvis during sit to stand in stroke patients, which I presented as a poster presentation at the School of Healthcare Studies Research Conference in March 2001. Although my main focus is in neurology, I have been involved in the teaching, assessment and organisation of a number of areas of physiotherapy at undergraduate level and postgraduate level. I have also contributed to the development of the teaching curriculum and assessment procedures during a number of revalidation processes. My academic and research development is now towards the study of balance and falls management with a strong emphasis in neurology, in particular stroke rehabilitation.Clinical Experiences
