Ymchwil
Mae fy ymchwil mewn dau faes yn bennaf:
- Llenyddiaeth ganoloesol (yn enwedig Hen Saesneg-Islandeg a Hen Saesneg)
- Canoloesedd Prydeinig yr ugeinfed ganrif
Mae fy arbenigedd a'm diddordebau mewn llenyddiaeth Saesneg a Norseg ganoloesol yn cynnwys: llenyddiaeth ganoloesol a'r amgylchedd, hagiography, rhywedd canoloesol a rhywioldeb, a lle llenyddiaeth Hen Norseg mewn Llenyddiaeth y Byd ac astudiaethau canoloesol byd-eang.
Mae fy ymchwil ar ganoloesoldeb modern wedi cynnwys cwpl o gyhoeddiadau ar gyfnod Fictoria ond mae wedi canolbwyntio'n bennaf ar awduron yr ugeinfed ganrif. Ar wahân i lyfr a sawl erthygl ar J. R. R. Tolkien, rwyf hefyd wedi cyhoeddi ar yr awduron canlynol : W. H. Auden, George Mackay Brown, Margaret Elphinstone, David Jones, a David Rudkin.
Gyda Timothy Bourns (Prifysgol Washington), rwy'n cyd-olygu casgliad o draethodau ar ecofeirniadaeth a llenyddiaeth Hen Norse-Islandeg. Fy mhrif brosiect cyfredol yw ysgrifennu astudiaeth llyfr o Loegr ganoloesol gynnar mewn llenyddiaeth, ffilm a diwylliant yr ugeinfed ganrif.
Mae diddordeb mawr gan y cyhoedd mewn diwylliant canoloesol ac mewn ysgrifenwyr canoloesol modern fel Tolkien, ac rwyf wedi ymrwymo i rannu fy ymchwil gyda chynulleidfaoedd y tu allan i'r byd academaidd. Rwyf wedi gwasanaethu Cymdeithas Viking ar gyfer Ymchwil y Gogledd, sydd ag aelodaeth sy'n croesawu academyddion a'r cyhoedd yn ehangach, mewn rolau amrywiol dros y chwarter canrif diwethaf, gan gynnwys fel Llywydd. Rwyf hefyd wedi rhoi sgyrsiau i sefydliadau fel Cymdeithas Norwyaidd Cymru ac Amgueddfa Byd Bede (Jarrow) ac wedi trefnu digwyddiad cyhoeddus gyda siaradwyr gwadd ar gyfer lansio fy llyfr ar Tolkien a Chymru. Yn 2025 byddaf yn westai anrhydedd ac yn siaradwr yng nghinio blynyddol Cymdeithas Tolkien.
Rwy'n aelod o Ganolfan Astudiaethau Canoloesol rhyngddisgyblaethol Caerdydd, ac o grŵp Diwylliannau Amgylcheddol Caerdydd: Diwylliannau Amgylcheddol Caerdydd – Cardiff ScienceHumanities
Addysgu
Rwyf wedi dysgu amrywiaeth o fodiwlau gwahanol ar lefel BA ac MA ar lenyddiaeth Hen Saesneg, Hen Norseg a Saesneg Canol. Rwyf hefyd wedi dysgu rhywfaint o lenyddiaeth yr ugeinfed ganrif y rhan fwyaf o flynyddoedd drwy gydol fy nghyfnod yng Nghaerdydd (gan gynnwys modiwlau cyfan ar W. H. Auden neu J. R. R. Tolkien yn y gorffennol).
Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n addysgu modiwl Blwyddyn 2 ar Epic a Saga, sy'n canolbwyntio ar sagâu chwedlonol Beowulf a Hen Norse-Islandeg, ac yn cyfrannu at fodiwl Blwyddyn 1 Cyrff Troseddgar mewn Llenyddiaeth Ganoloesol. Disgwylir i'm modiwl dewisol blwyddyn olaf Island Stories: Literatures of the North Atlantic gael ei gynnal eto yn 2025-26: mae'r modiwl hwnnw'n cyfuno astudiaeth o sagas a ffuglen ganoloesol yr ugeinfed ganrif a ffuglen yr unfed ganrif ar hugain o Ynysoedd Erch, Shetland, y Faroes, Gwlad yr Iâ, a'r Ynys Las.
