Mae Dr Dimitris Potoglou yn Ddarllenydd mewn Dadansoddi Trafnidiaeth a Dewis Cymhwysol ac yn Gyfarwyddwr yr MSc Trafnidiaeth a Chynllunio, rhaglen arbenigol flaenllaw yn yr Ysgol Daearyddiaeth a Chynllunio.
Mae Dimitris yn arbenigo ac yn arwain ymchwil ym meysydd ymddygiad teithio, y galw am gerbydau glanach a seilwaith cysylltiedig, yn ogystal ag ymchwil ryngddisgyblaethol arloesol sy'n cynnwys astudio dewisiadau unigol.
Mae ei ymdrechion ymchwil presennol yn ymwneud ag agweddau ymddygiadol 'datgarboneiddio trafnidiaeth ffordd trwy drydaneiddio', maes cynyddol feirniadol o wneud penderfyniadau ynghylch trafnidiaeth a symudedd. Mae'r gwaith yn canolbwyntio'n bennaf ar tua phedwar dimensiwn: (a) y galw am gerbydau trydan (EVs) (e.e. Potoglou et al., 2020; Potoglou a Chân, 2020); (b) y galw am seilwaith gwefru EV cyhoeddus (ee Potoglou et al., 2023); (c) astudio anghydraddoldebau o drydaneiddio trafnidiaeth ffordd (ee Hopkins et al., 2023); (d) astudio nifer y bobl sy'n manteisio ar deithio llesol a rôl seilwaith trafnidiaeth gyhoeddus (e.e. Albahlal et al. 2022). Mae'r dimensiynau hyn yn gofyn am waith cydweithredol a rhyngddisgyblaethol, sydd wedi'i wireddu trwy ei gysylltiadau cydweithredol cryf â'r Ysgolion Peirianneg (yr Athro Liana Cipcigan a'r Athro Carol Featherstone), Cyfrifiadureg (Yr Athro Omer Rana) a Seicoleg (Yr Athro Wouter Poortinga).
Ochr yn ochr â'r gweithgaredd hwn, mae Dimitris yn arwain gwaith ymchwil gydag Atodiad 79 yr Asiantaeth Ynni Rhyngwladol ar barodrwydd 'preswylwyr' i rannu gwybodaeth ar gyfer gwell cysur ac effeithlonrwydd ynni' (gweler, Haggar et al., 2022). Mae'r prosiect hwn yn cynnwys grŵp rhyngwladol cryf o ymchwilwyr a chysylltiadau â gwaith blaenorol Dimitris ar astudio cyfaddawdau preifatrwydd a diogelwch unigolion mewn gwahanol gyd-destunau; er enghraifft, gwerth gwybodaeth bersonol, preifatrwydd a diogelwch mewn cyd-destunau bywyd go iawn fel data gofal iechyd, defnydd o'r rhyngrwyd a theithio ar y rheilffyrdd (e.e. Potoglou et al., 2015; Potoglou et al., 2017).
Ar hyn o bryd mae Dimitris yn gwasanaethu fel Aelod o Banel Adolygu Annibynnol Llywodraeth Cymru ar gyfer 'Adolygu a Gweithredu Mesurau Ansawdd Aer Awdurdodau Lleol yng Nghymru'. Mae'n Olygydd Cyswllt ar gyfer Ymchwil Trafnidiaeth Rhan D: Trafnidiaeth a'r Amgylchedd ac mae'n aelod o Fyrddau Golygyddol y Journal of Transport Geography, and Sustainability, Section: Sustainable Urban and Rural Development.
Cyn ymuno â Phrifysgol Caerdydd, gweithiodd Dimitris fel dadansoddwr polisi ymchwil yn RAND Europe, sefydliad ymchwil nid-er-elw, a chymrawd ôl-ddoethurol ym Mhrifysgol Technoleg Delft.
