Rwy'n Brif Ymchwilydd ar Astudiaeth REVAMP, astudiaeth aml-safle ledled y DU a ariennir gan MRC DPFS, lle rydym yn datblygu ffurf newydd ar dystiolaeth o brawf maes gweledol ar gyfer adnabod a monitro clefyd y llygaid, yn fwyaf arbennig glawcoma.

Ymchwil
Ymchwil
Fy mhrif ddiddordebau ymchwil yw seicoffiseg sylfaenol a chlinigol. Mae ymchwil yn fy labordy wedi'i anelu'n bennaf at gael gwell dealltwriaeth o bensaernïaeth swyddogaethol y system weledol iach a sut mae'n cael ei newid mewn anhwylderau niwroddirywiol fel glawcoma a dirywiad macwlaidd. I fynd i'r afael â'r nodau hyn, mae fy labordy yn defnyddio cyfuniad o seicoffiseg, electroffisioleg, delweddu retinol, a fMRI. Rydym hefyd yn meddu ar y ddealltwriaeth hon i lywio dyluniad offer clinigol cywir a manwl gywir ar gyfer nodi'r diffygion cynharaf o ganfyddiad gweledol yn yr anhwylderau hyn.
Mesurau gwell o'r maes gweledol yn glawcoma
Mae fy ymchwil wedi canolbwyntio ar nodweddu signal clefydau ac amrywioldeb ymateb gydag amrywiol ffurfweddau ysgogol mewn cleifion â glawcoma, ac archwilio ffyrdd y gellir cynyddu'r gymhareb signal/sŵn i wella canfod colli golwg cynnil dros amser. Mae gennyf ddiddordeb hefyd yn y modd y mae newidiadau anniwral yn effeithio ar fesurau clinigol o ran golwg sy'n digwydd gydag oedran neu glefyd y llygaid (e.e. mwy o straylight intraocwlar, melyn lens crisialog).
Ymchwil a Gwerthuso Perimetreg Modiwleiddio Ardal (astudiaeth REVAMP)
Yn ddiweddar, dyfarnwyd £1.82 miliwn i'm tîm gan Gynllun Ariannu Llwybr Datblygiadol MRC (DPFS) am ymchwil i ffyrdd gwell o adnabod colli caeau gweledol mewn pobl â glawcoma. Mae'r gwaith hwn yn cael ei wneud ar y cyd â Dr Padraig Mulholland a'r Athro Roger S Anderson ym Mhrifysgol Ulster, Yr Athro David F Garway-Heath yn Sefydliad Offthalmoleg UCL, a'r Athro James E Morgan ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd. Mae mwy o fanylion, gan gynnwys sut i gymryd rhan yn yr astudiaeth, i'w gweld ar dudalen we REVAMP.
Diffygion canfyddiad gweledol gydag oedran a chlefydau
Rydym wedi ymchwilio i newidiadau mewn crynodebau gofodol gydag oedran ac yn y glawcoma cynnar. Dangosodd dau bapur gan ein grŵp, a gyhoeddwyd ochr yn ochr mewn Offthalmoleg Ymchwiliol a Gwyddor Gweledol , er nad yw crynodeb gofodol wedi newid gydag oedran hyrwyddo, gellir cyfrif am golli sensitifrwydd (i fan bach o olau sy'n amrywio mewn disgleirdeb) yn glawcoma cynnar trwy ehangu'r ardal o grynodeb gofodol cyflawn (ardal Ricco). Mae gwaith mwy diweddar gan ein grŵp wedi dangos bod crynodebau tymhorol hefyd yn cael ei newid mewn glawcoma. Gyda'i gilydd, mae gan y canfyddiadau hyn oblygiadau uniongyrchol ar gyfer dylunio profion clinigol cywir ar gyfer mesur diffygion maes gweledol cynnar mewn glawcoma.
Delweddu'r ymennydd
Rydym yn defnyddio fMRI a seicoffiseg i astudio ad-drefnu yn y cortecs gweledol dynol mewn glawcoma, gyda chydweithwyr yng Nghanolfan Ymchwil Delweddu'r Ymennydd Prifysgol Caerdydd (CUBRIC). Mae'r gwaith hwn yn cael ei ariannu'n hael gan Fight for Sight, yr Elusen Ymchwil Llygaid.
In vivo côn imaging
Rydym wedi bod yn cynnal cyfres o arbrofion lle mae conau yn cael eu delweddu'n vivo gan ddefnyddio offeryniaeth glinigol. Cyhoeddwyd canfyddiadau cychwynnol yn ddiweddar yn y cyfnodolyn Ophthalmology.
Craffter gweledol
Mae profion craffter gweledol clinigol yn gyflym ac yn syml i'w perfformio, ond gall y canlyniadau fod yn amrywiol iawn, gan eu gwneud yn ansensitif i newidiadau cynnil mewn golwg sy'n digwydd dros amser neu mewn ymateb i driniaeth. Un ffactor sy'n cyfrannu yw'r amrywiad eang mewn cymhwysedd optoteip. Mewn un astudiaeth, gwnaethom ddangos sut mae 'craffter optoteip diflannu' (aciwity wedi'i fesur gydag optoteipiau ffug-basio uchel) yn fwy unffurf ar draws llythrennau na chraffter i lythyrau confensiynol. Gellir gweld optoteipiau sy'n diflannu yn Ffigur 3.
