Athro mewn archaeoleg Môr y Canoldir
- Ar gael fel goruchwyliwr ôl-raddedig
Trosolwyg
Fy mhrif ddiddordebau yw ym myd yr Oes Haearn Gynnar a'r Môr Canoldir Archentaidd, yn enwedig ei rannau siarad Groegaidd. Rwy'n cael fy hyfforddi fel ysgolhaig clasurol ac archeolegydd. Yr hyn rwy'n ei hoffi am archaeoleg yw ei fod yn eistedd ar groesffordd y dyniaethau a'r gwyddorau; a'r hyn rwy'n ei hoffi am y Clasuron yw ei fod yn dweud wrthym o ble rydyn ni wedi dod ac o ble rydyn ni'n mynd.
Fy nod? Cyflwyno duwiau newydd a llygru ieuenctid Athen.
Ymchwil a diddordebau ysgolheigaidd
- Oes yr Haearn Cynnar a Groeg Archentaidd, yn enwedig Creta
- Ethnigrwydd a diwylliant materol
- Dwyrain Creta a Praisos
- Knossos o'r Neolithig hyd heddiw
- Hanes Archaeolegol
- Hanes Archaeoleg, yn enwedig Archaeoleg Glasurol
- Celf ac Asiantaeth yn y Byd Groeg
- Llythrennedd hynafol, arferion epigraffig ac arysgrifau
- Personoliaeth, asiantaeth ac eiconograffeg
- Damcaniaeth archaeolegol
- Cymeradwyrwydd, gwleidyddiaeth hynafol a'r wladwriaeth dinasyddion (Pwyleg)
- Homer, Hanes ac Archaeoleg
- Arferion a rhywedd Morwriaethol (e.e. 'beddi rhyfelgar')
- Cyltiau beddau, cyltiau arwr, hynafiaid a defnydd y gorffennol (cof cymdeithasol)
Prosiectau ymchwil
- Prosiect Praisos
- Cynhyrchu a Defnydd Crochenwaith mewn Creta Oes yr Haearn: Knossos a Sybrita
- ZOOCRETE (a ddatblygwyd o wledda a gwladwriaethau yn y Byd Aegean)
- Rhwydwaith Ymchwil: Yr Aegean o'r Oes Efydd Diweddar i'r Cyfnod Hynafol (ar gyfer myfyrwyr PhD ac Ysgolorion Gyrfa Gynnar)
Credaf hefyd y dylai prifysgol fod yn gymuned o ysgolheigion, gwyddonwyr a myfyrwyr yn cydweithio i chwilio am y gwir am bethau - chwiliad y mae'n rhaid ei gynnal gyda hyfywedd moesol a difrifoldeb deallusol. Felly, nid wyf yn credu yn nyfnderoedd Seciwlariaeth Fetropolitanaidd - Cynnydd, Celf, Llenyddiaeth, Rheoli, yr Economi neu Lwyddiant - ac ni fues erioed yn gyfranogwr yn y Cwlt o Adeiladau Mawr, Sgleiniog yn ddiweddar.

Prosiect Praisos, 1992-2023
Mae Prosiect Praisos yn brosiect arolygu a chloddio integredig sy'n canolbwyntio ar safle a chyffiniau dinas hynafol Praisos yn Eastern Creta, sy'n enwog mewn hynafiaeth fel dinas yr Eteocretaniaid ('Gwir Gretiaid'). Amcanion y prosiect yw; i ddeall hanes aneddiadau yn y rhanbarth, o'r cyfnod Neolithig hyd at y presennol; yn ail i ddeall strwythur trefol a defnydd gofod domestig o fewn yr anheddiad a'r ddinas; ac yn drydydd i ddeall sut roedd diwylliant materol yr 'Eteocretaniaid' yn wahanol, os o gwbl, o'u cymdogion Groegaidd i'r Gogledd-ddwyrain a'r Gorllewin. Fe'i hariennir gan yr Ysgol Brydeinig yn Athen; yr Academi Brydeinig; Cymdeithas Hynafiaethwyr Llundain; Sefydliad Cynhanes Aegean, Philadelphia (INSTAP); Coleg Gonville a Caius, Caergrawnt; Sefydliad Dyniaethau Packard (ar gyfer cloddio).

ZOOCRETE (Gwledda, Trefolaeth a Gwladwriaethau yn Creta, tua 1000-67 CC)
Datblygodd ZOOCRETE allan o gynnig prosiect cynharach Gwledda a Gwladwriaethau yn y Byd Aegean (1000-140 CC). Roedd hyn yn cynnig model newydd ar gyfer rôl gwledda cyhoeddus wrth gynnal gwladwriaethau dinasyddion Groeg hynafol, gan archwilio gwytnwch gwladwriaeth dinasyddion Gwlad Groeg gan dynnu ar gysyniadau o anthropoleg a hanes hynafol. Gellir deall llwyddiant y polis orau trwy ganmoliaeth gyhoeddus: yr hyn nad oedd polyn yn ei wneud i fyny trwy gyfranogiad (dinasyddiaeth yw hynny). Cafodd dinasyddion eu creu a'u diffinio trwy ganmoliaeth.
Mae ZOOCRETE yn cymryd rhai o'r syniadau hyn ac yn eu cymhwyso i gymunedau gwleidyddol Creta o'r Oes Haearn gynharaf hyd at ddiwedd y cyfnod Hellenistaidd. Fe'i hariennir trwy gymrodoriaeth Marie Curie ar gyfer Dr Flint Dibble sydd wedi gweithio yn Labordy Wiener yn Ysgol Astudiaethau Clasurol America yn Athen. Mae Dr Dibble wedi gwneud astudiaethau macrosgopig helaeth o ddyddodion esgyrn anifeiliaid ar brif safle Azoria yn Eastern Crete. Bydd yn ymestyn yr astudiaethau hyn i gasgliadau o Knossos, Praisos, Itanos ac Anavlochos. Bydd hefyd yn gweithio gyda Dr Richard Madgwick i ddatblygu'r defnydd o wahanol fathau o ddadansoddiadau isotopig i ddeall ystod o gwestiynau am ddalgylch yr anifeiliaid sy'n cael eu bwyta mewn gwleddoedd, amser eu lladd ac yn y blaen. Bydd yn gweithio gyda Dr Laurence Totelin i gysylltu'r data bioarchaeolegol hwn â thestunau hynafol perthnasol am rôl anifeiliaid ym mywyd Groeg; a bydd yn gweithio gyda mi ar sut mae gwledda yn ymwneud â chymunedau gwleidyddol yn Creta (yn enwedig yn Praisos). Mae nifer o gyhoeddiadau a gyflwynwyd mewn perthynas â'r cais ERC cynharach yn berthnasol i'r prosiect hwn.

Cynhyrchu a Defnydd Crochenwaith mewn Creta Oes yr Haearn: Knossos a Sybrita, 2005-2016
Yn y bôn, dadansoddiad petrolegol (petrograffig yn bennaf) yw'r prosiect hwn o'r crochenwaith brasach a plainer o Knossos yr Oes Haearn Gynnar a Sybrita yn Creta. Mae'r astudiaeth o ddarnau arian o'r Oes Haearn Gynnar yn yr Aegean wedi dioddef o esgeulustod cymharol o'i gymharu â rhai'r Oes Efydd. Y nod yw gwell dealltwriaeth o batrymau cynhyrchu a defnydd o'r crochenwaith bras a blaen a ddefnyddir mewn bywyd bob dydd, yn enwedig mewn cyd-destunau domestig, yn Knossos a Sybrita. Fe'i hariennir gan Sefydliad Cynhanes Aegean (INSTAP) a'r Ysgol Brydeinig yn Athen. Mae hwn yn brosiect cydweithredol sy'n cynnwys J. Whitley (Caerdydd), Dr Anna Lucia D'Agata (Canolfan Ymchwil Genedlaethol, Rhufain) a Dr Marie Claude Boileau, o Labordy Fitch yr Ysgol Brydeinig yn Athen.

Rhwydwaith Ymchwil: Yr Oes Efydd Hwyr i Aegean Archentaidd (tua 1600 i 450 CC)
Rhwydwaith yw hwn a sefydlwyd gennyf fy hun, ynghyd â Dr Michael Loy (Ysgol Brydeinig Athen/Caergrawnt), yr Athro Irene Lemos (Rhydychen) a'r Athro Robin Osborne (Caergrawnt). Fe'i cynlluniwyd i ddarparu rhwydwaith cymorth i ysgolheigion iau, yn bennaf ond nid yn unig yn y DU, sydd â diddordeb yn y cyfnodau hyn. Fe'i datblygwyd yn ystod cyfnod clo Covid er mwyn helpu'r ysgolheigion iau hyn (yn enwedig myfyrwyr PhD ac Ymchwilwyr Gyrfa Gynnar - i gadw mewn cysylltiad ac i elwa o adborth gan eraill. Mae'r rhwydwaith wedi trefnu un sesiwn rhagarweiniol ('speed dating') lle mae ymchwilwyr yn syml yn cyflwyno eu hunain a'u pwnc, a thair cynhadledd fach ar-lein (lle mae pump neu felly ysgolheigion iau yn rhoi papurau). Cynhaliwyd y gynhadledd fach bersonol gyntaf yng Nghaergrawnt ym mis Ebrill 2023 ychydig cyn cyfarfod y Gymdeithas Glasurol.
Trawsnewidiadau ym Môr y Canoldir 1200-500 CC, 2010-2015
Prosiect ymbarél yw hwn, a redir gan yr Athro Manfred Bietak (Fienna) a'r Athro Hartmut Matthäus (Erlangen), a'i ddiben yw deall y prosesau cymdeithasol ac economaidd a arweiniodd at Fôr y Canoldir 'cysylltiedig' yn Oes yr Haearn. Prif nod y prosiect yn bennaf yw deall y prosesau y cafodd Môr y Canoldir eu trawsnewid drwyddynt (neu 'wedi cysylltu'). Mae darparu gwell fframwaith cronolegol yn gam cyntaf yn y ddealltwriaeth hon. Mae'r gweithgareddau'n cynnwys: gweithdai yn Fienna, Ionawr 2008; gweithdy yng Nghaergrawnt 'Pontio'r Rhaniad', 6-7 Tachwedd 2009. Mae Dr Simon Stoddart (Caergrawnt), Dr Alexandra Villing (Amgueddfa Brydeinig) a minnau'n cynrychioli cangen Prydain o'r fenter Awstriaidd / Almaeneg hon i raddau helaeth.

Rwyf hefyd wedi dysgu am un semester yng Ngholeg Vassar, Poughkeepsie yn yr Unol Daleithiau. Felly, mae gen i dros 30 mlynedd o brofiad addysgu - er nad oes cymwysterau addysgu ffurfiol (math o gymwysterau diangen, yn fy marn i).
Yng Nghaerdydd rwyf wedi dysgu ar amrywiaeth o gyrsiau ar Archaeoleg Groeg, Hanes Archaeoleg a Theori Archeolegol. Mae themâu sy'n llywio fy ymchwil hefyd yn llywio fy addysgu. Rwy'n hoffi cymysgu'r ymarferol gyda'r damcaniaethol - felly mae myfyrwyr ar fy ncyrsiau yn mynd ar deithiau amgueddfa (i Rydychen a'r Amgueddfa Brydeinig, lle maent weithiau'n trin gwrthrychau) a gofyn naill ai eu hysgrifennu (fel bywgraffiadau gwrthrych) neu eu trafod mewn seminarau. Rhoddir dewis eang i fyfyrwyr o ran pynciau i'w dewis ar gyfer traethodau, neu pan ofynnir iddynt ysgrifennu crynodeb o lyfr. Mae gen i fwy o ddiddordeb mewn addysgu effeithiol nag arloesi er mwyn arloesi.
Mae'r pwnc rwy'n hoffi ei addysgu orau yn ymwneud â'r Oes Haearn Gynnar a Groeg Archentaidd, cyfnod lle mae cynhanes yn cwrdd â hanes ac mae'r cofnod materol yn cwrdd â barddoniaeth (ar ffurf y Homer). Mae hyn yn cynhyrchu cyfres ddiddiwedd o gwestiynau diddorol sydd wedi cael eu harchwilio ers cannoedd o flynyddoedd.
Rwyf hefyd wedi dysgu ôl-raddedigion ac athrawon pan oeddwn yn Gyfarwyddwr yr Ysgol Brydeinig yn Athen ar gyrsiau amrywiol.
