Books

Research

My doctoral work at Sussex University was on the German philosopher T.W. Adorno's aesthetics and sociology of culture.  I have continued to publish work on Adorno (and especially Adorno's musicology).  I have written a monograph and an introductory book of 'Key Concepts' on the German philosopher and social theorist Jürgen Habermas, who was once Adorno's research assistent.

In addition to this interest in German philosophy, I have, during my time at Cardiff, been involved in a number of European Commission funded research projects, that have looked as various problems in the field of bioethics, including issues of health care resource allocation, dignity of older patients, and the problems of living with chronic illness.

My main area of interest is now the philosophy of sport.  I have written a monograph on the relationship between sport and art.  I am currently the editor of the journal Sport, Ethics and Philosophy.
