Overview

I lead a research programme investigating delivery of clinical care to children with diabetes. This includes research studies evaluating communication skills training for healthcare professionals, transition services, evaluating how children make choices about healthcare and models of care for children at diagnosis and analyses of data from the Brecon Group register of children in Wales with diabetes within SAIL (Swansea University), a databank of anonymised linked datasets. I have published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals.

I have a longstanding interest in training and assessment in Paediatrics in resource-challenged parts of the world. I have led the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) Paediatric Endocrine Training Centres for Africa in Nairobi and Lagos and the annual ESPE Winter School in Eastern Europe. I am Principal Regional Examiner for the Middle-East for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. and am co-author of Practical Endocrinology and Diabetes in Children, now in its third edition.
