Overview

I am a Vascular Surgeon working in the South East Wales Vascular Network (SEWVN) and an honorary senior lecturer at Cardiff University. I am also Associate Medical Director of the Research & Development department in ABUHB.

My primary research interests include amputation surgery, wound healing, surgical site infection, peripheral arterial disease, aortic aneurysm surgery, collaborative research, and decision making. I am interested in research which has a tangible benefit for patients.

I have led national and international research projects in these areas, and have been awarded >£2million in funding from NIHR and HCRW. I am the Chief Investigator for the NIHR HTA funded PLACEMENT study, looking at improving pain after amputation surgery.

I am the deputy chair of the Vascular Society Amputation Speciality Interest Group, editor of the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (EJVES; top ranked vascular surgery journal globally) and the Journal of the Vascular Societies of Great Britain and Ireland (JVSGBI). I chair the Research Committee of the British Society of Endovascular Therapy (BSET) and am a senior committee member of the Vascular and Endovascular Research Network (VERN). I am the Research Lead for the SEWVN.

I am chairing the 2027 European Society of Vascular Surgery Major Lower Limb Amputation guideline writing group, which will be a new international guideline on the pre-, peri- and post operative management of patients undergoing amputation surgery.
