Research
I am best known for my research achievements on Japanese management and my work in Asia. This regional interest developed from my experience working in industry in Japan. In recent years I have continued to conduct research in the Asian region but have broadened my research area to explore possible areas for social innovation in “in-group”/“outgroup” settings in emerging/developed markets and with minority/majority groups. My research interests are centred on the influence of groups on the behaviour of individuals in society, business, learning and consumption. My work adopts a cross-cultural lens to explore international marketing and business across a range of themes (such as cosmetics, beer, fashion, learning and the changing face of management and consumption).
Primary research interests
- Asian management practice;
- Social innovations in emerging markets and in minority/majority groups;
- Social capital and workforce identity in multicultural societies;
- Strategy, culture and Japanese management style;
- Cultural transferability and identity outside the country-of-origin;
- Innovative pedagogy in transnational settings;
- Identity, culture and consumption in emerging markets;
- Asian settings versus western paradigms;
- Cross-cultural understanding and behaviour in minority/majority groups;
- Emerging markets, cultural transferability and identity outside the country-of-origin.
