Ms Sarah Alanazi

Research student

Overview

Since January 2023, I have been a Postgraduate Researcher in English Literature at Cardiff University under the supervision of Prof. Mark Llewellyn.

Research

My doctoral research delves into a new trend in critical studies that is concerned with rethinking how masculinity has been depicted in English literature, particularly within mid to late Victorian novels.

I am interested in the impact of unconventional femininity in reshaping Victorian masculinity to produce progressive forms of male identity, which I theorise as early traces of The New Man figure.

Additional interests include: New Woman fiction; Neo-Victorianism; Gender identity; and Gothic literature.

Biography

After obtaining a First-Class Honours degree in English Language (2014-2018), I was selected among 10 delegates for a scholarship to commence my postgraduate studies abroad.

I was awarded an MA with Distinction in English Literature (2020-2021) from Swansea University.

I am currently embarking on my PhD in English Literature at Cardiff University, which is supervised by Prof. Mark Llewellyn since January 2023.
