Research
The research project aims to develop a customised workflow using machine learning for generative design in hospital emergency department layouts. It focuses on assessing existing emergency department floor plans, assigning scores, and generating alternative methods based on specific criteria. The scope includes exploring machine learning for function and performance-based hospital layout design, particularly emphasising minimising distances and optimising department-room relationships. Motivated by the limited studies on hospital layout design using machine learning, the research addresses the complexity and challenges of obtaining optimised layouts, especially in the conceptual design stage. Integrating artificial intelligence and parametric-generative design methods is proposed to offer innovative solutions. The study involves an extensive literature review, focusing on space syntax, machine learning, and AI integration in architectural layout design. Notably, the research explores the potential of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) in spatial design analyses and optimisation. Ultimately, the study seeks to demonstrate how machine learning can significantly contribute to creating optimised emergency department floor plans, considering multiple performance criteria.

Biography
I'm doing my PhD at Cardiff University's Department of Architecture, focusing on cutting-edge technologies and their application in architectural practice. The main focus of my doctoral thesis is "Automatic Generation of Hospital-Emergency Department Layouts with Machine Learning".
I received my master's degree from Istanbul Technical University-Architectural Design Computing Program. My master's thesis, "Ensuring the Efficiency of Architectural Design Workflows with a Computational Design Approach Based on Building Information Modeling," reflects my research on optimizing design processes through creative methodologies.
I have gained seven years of professional experience working across different architectural offices as an architect and BIM specialist. During this time, I contributed my expertise to multiple projects, including hospital renovations and clinic installations. My professional journey also included active participation in numerous national and international architectural competitions. This collective experience has enriched my skills and broadened my perspective as I continue to advance in the dynamic field of architecture.
My academic journey started with my undergraduate degree at Istanbul Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Architecture. This extensive educational background has provided me with a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. It has positioned me as a well-rounded professional in architecture and computational design.
