Biography

Paolo Coruzzi is an Italian-born researcher, educator, and multidisciplinary artist currently undertaking a PhD in Archaeology at Cardiff University. His doctoral research focuses on the transformation of Paleo-Christian rock-cut tombs and churches across the Northern Mediterranean, with particular attention to the architectural and symbolic evolution of these sacred spaces in regions associated with the journeys of Saint Paul. His work integrates archaeological, historical, and theological perspectives to explore the reuse of funerary landscapes during the early Christian period.

Paolo holds an MA in Humanities and Arts from the University of Turin and an MA in Archaeology from University College London, alongside a Diploma in Classical Guitar Performance from Trinity College London. His academic interests lie at the intersection of sacred architecture, early Christian archaeology, and cultural transmission, and his approach combines field-based documentation with public-facing dissemination.

With a long-standing parallel career in the creative arts, Paolo has produced and directed numerous theatrical works and composed original music and soundtracks since the early 1990s. His artistic journey has included staging plays by Ibsen, Euripides, and Ionesco, and receiving literary recognition such as the first prize in poetry at the Pirandello Stable Festival (2012).

He is also the founder of Sacred Archaeology (www.sacred-archaeology.com), a platform dedicated to the exploration and visual storytelling of sacred sites, where his academic research meets public engagement through photography, videography, and digital narratives. Additionally, he leads SoundVid (www.soundvid.com), a multimedia production company, and continues to release original music and educational materials, including Viandanti nelle terre del sole(2024) and FAB Guitarist (2023).

Paolo is committed to both scholarly research and education, and currently teaches across Italian Literature, Music, Drama, and Humanities, drawing on his diverse expertise to foster interdisciplinary learning and cultural awareness.
