Serious games – Interactive digital demonstrators for modelling consensus on policy impacts

Biography

I studied BSc Computer Science at Cardiff University (2021-2025), where I gained both academic and professional experience. My studies included a year abroad at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, and working part-time as a Cyber Research Engineer and Digital Twin Engineer.

My undergraduate final year project, "CNI Digital Demonstrator: Showcasing the need to secure the renewable energy sector", allowed me to research the relationships between technology, cyber security, and policy. I used Unity Engine to create a 3D digital demonstrator that modelled how cyber attacks can trigger cascading failures across Critical National Infrastructure (CNI). This work solidified my skills in game development and cyber security, and fuelled my interest in using serious games to tackle complex societal challenges.

This project laid the foundation for my current PhD research, where I am exploring the use of serious games to model and bring people to consensus regarding policy decisions.

Primary interests: serious games, game development, digital demonstrators, Critical National Infrastructure, and cyber security.
