Myya Helm is a History and Welsh History Ph.D. student at the Cardiff University School of History, Archaeology, and Religion. She received a bachelor's degree in political science and international studies with a minor in Arabic studies from West Virginia University in West Virginia, USA. Her research focuses on ethically redressing the fragmentation and erasure of Black coal miners' histories in South Wales and West Virginia, utilising critical theory, Black feminist theory, and creative methods for historical reconstruction.
