Biography

Emil graduated with an Integrated Master’s degree in Biochemistry in 2026. During his studies, he developed a particular interest in the molecular mechanisms underlying gene regulation and how these processes influence plant development and adaptation to environmental stress. His master’s research project focused on exploring the genome and stress responses of wild rocket, Diplotaxis tenuifolia, providing him with valuable experience in plant genomics.
For his PhD, Emil will continue investigating stress responses in rocket salad, with a particular focus on the roles of microRNAs and epigenetic regulation in mediating plant responses to post-harvest stress. Under the supervision of Professor Hilary Rogers, Dr Jim Fouracre, Dr Angharad Jones, and Dr Tamara Lechón Gómez, his research will aim to improve understanding of the molecular mechanisms that influence the quality and resilience of leafy crops following harvest.
