Andrew Nelmes

Overview

My area of research covers traditional local media and emerging hyperlocals in a major UK city. The research reflects an interest in the dynamics of news ecosystems, my concerns about the crisis in local journalism but also how non-traditional forms of media and business practices are emerging, especially in the case of marginalised communities.

Prior to returning to academia to carry out my PhD I worked as a journalist in local news and alternative media and as a press officer for a local authority and a nationwide Third Sector membership organisation for environmental not-for-profit businesses and charities.
