Overview
I am a microbiologist and bioinformatician working within the Microbiomes, Microbes and Informatics (MMI) group. My research bridges wet-lab microbiology with computational analysis using both experimental and data-driven approaches.
My current research looks to investigate the biological removal of taste and odour compounds within drinking water works funded by the UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR). This work is ongoing within Prof. Andrew Weightman's research group in collaboration with Stantec. More information can be found here: UKWIR Research Projects.
Reserach Interests:
- Population Biology: Investigating microbial communities and their ecological interactions/roles using metagenomics, metabarcoding and experimental modelling.
- Bioinformatics: Advancing informatics approaches - including incorporation of machine learning - to address complex microbial questions with large-scale datasets.
- Antimicrobial Resistance: Working with multi-drug resistant microbes and identifying alternative strategies, with a primary focus on phage-based approaches.
- Phage Biology: Understanding phage diversity, lifestyles and their ecological niche.
