Rodent Routes: Mapping the Hidden Highways of Zoonotic Transmission on Farms

1st year PhD researcher based between the School of Geography and School of Biosciences.

The PhD aims to indentify the on-farm risk of rodent-borne zoonotic diseases. The project will use biological and social science methods to answer the research questions:

  • What zoonotic pathogens are transmitted by rodents on UK farms?
  • What are the direct and indirect rodent-human contact networks on farms?
  • To whom (people/animals) do rodens transmit zoonoses?
  • How do farming practices, behaviours and environmental conditions alter risk?

Supervised by Professor Gareth Enticott at Cardiff University. Co-supervised by Catherine Moore (Public Health Wales), Dr Sarah Perkins (Cardiff University), Dr Joanne Lello (Cardiff University), Dr Cedric Berger (Cardiff University) and Professor Kris Murray (LSHTM).
