Overview

Hello! I am interested in film studies and philosophy and how the two inform interpretations of modern cultural phenomenon. I have a particular theoretical interest in Psychoanalysis and Hegelian re-interpretations of Marxism.

My overarching academic principles is taking concepts that are initially considered opaque and too theoretical and showing how this way of thinking can and does intervene in our everyday. That one can never truly escape theory, either you use it or it uses you.

Research

Thesis

The Corporate Afterlife

My thesis is exploring the history of the depiction of the afterlife in film and television. Of special interest is how in the last 30 years there has been a tendency to depict the afterlife using the metaphor of a corporation.

There has been no systematic survey of the afterlife in film and television giving my research a unique position to start the conversation in this topic that bridges popular culture and theology, as well as the theoretical and the intuitive.
