Research Associate
Overview
Dilek is a Research Associate at Cardiff University, she contributes to the Arts and Humanities Research Council funded Green Transitions Ecosystems (GTE) project Transforming Housing and homes for Future Generations. Her role involves conducting research within the area of the use of bio-based materials and low carbon solutions in the remodelling of existing housing through modelling and monitoring of implemented solutions. Dilek holds a PhD in Sustainable Architecture from the University of Liverpool funded by Turkish Ministry of Education, Study Abroad Program. Her work centred on retrofitting multi-residential buildings in warm-temperate climates to meet the EnerPHit energy standard while reducing carbon emissions and costs. Previously, Dilek contributed to the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project, Preserving the Past for the Future, which tackled challenges in retrofitting and decarbonising heritage assets across the UK. She also worked as an Embodied Carbon Researcher at Hawkins\Brown Architects, supporting the Sustainability Team in conducting LCAs on various building projects of different sizes and types using the in-house tool H\B:ERT and OneClick LCA.
