Miss Joelle Bowie-Hallam
Clinical Skills Tutor
I joined the school of Healthcare Sciences in 2021 as a Clinical Skills and Simulation Tutor. My backgroud is paediatrics. I qualified as a Childrens Nurse (BSc Hons, First Class Honours) at Swansea University, then started work on Island Ward in Noahs Ark Childrens Hospital for Wales. I then specialised in Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU). I took specialist qualifications at the University of South Wales, in Special and High Dependency Care of the Newborn, and Advances in Specialised Intensive Care of the Newborn, which made me a QIS nurse (Qualified in speciality). These qualifications in line with my clinical experience allowed me to gain my band 6, becoming junior sister on NICU. Being in charge and having my junior members of staff come to me for support is where I found my passion for teaching. I was also the link nurse for Trisomy 21, and was a member of the NICU Berevement team. I have also worked as a Clinical Research Nurse at the Childrens Research Unit in the University Hospital of Wales, assisting collegues with a diabetic study.
Here at Cardiff University, I teach, assess and supervise students across undergraduate and postgradaute programmes.
