Lecturer in Magazine Journalism

School of Journalism, Media and Culture

Overview

I am a lecturer on the MA in Magazine Journalism course, teaching modules ranging from magazine production to professional development and the realities of being a journalist.

I have more than a decade's experience as a writer and editor for titles such as BBC Travel, National Geographic Traveller, The Independent, and The Sunday Times. A specialist in content marketing, I have led the teams responsible for the global digital and social media channels for brands such as British Airways and Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group – overseeing the launch of digital magazines and editorial websites, Instagram innovations, WeChat magazines, podcasts, voice tours and many more activations.

Before becoming a journalist, I worked in international higher education marketing and student recruitment for King’s College London, Cardiff University and Swansea University, advising students, teachers and parents on the benefits of going to university, how to apply and student finance.

Teaching

I teach the following modules on the MA in Magazine Journalism course:

  • Production for print, digital and social
  • Professional development
