Biography
I have worked for Cardiff University on and off for more than 10 years in several roles. I began as an IT support technician in the School of Law in 2010 where I worked for 4 years, maintaining the school’s IT systems, and provided day to day technical support to staff and students. In 2014 I took a career break and moved to Japan to teach English, initially only intending to stay for 1 year but ended up extending my stay to closer to 4. I taught at state elementary and junior high schools as an assistant language teacher, delivering classes alongside a Japanese teacher of English. During my final year, I worked at a pilot school that was trialling and incorporating educational technology into their curriculum. I returned to the UK and Cardiff University in 2018, to my previous profession as an IT support technician, this time within the School of Medicine. A desire to bring together my IT background and experience of teaching in Japan led me to seek career opportunities related to technology enhanced learning. After a few years with University IT, in October 2020 an opportunity to join the Digital Education Team presented itself and I’ve never looked back. I currently work as a Learning Technology Support Officer for the support hub as part of the Digital Education Team within the Cardiff Learning and Teaching Academy. As well as providing day to day support, advice and guidance in response to digital education related enquiries received through the support hub, I work with colleagues in the academy and across the university, implementing and supporting a range of technology-enhanced learning projects/initiatives designed to enhance the student learning experience.
