Overview

Mike has been a qualified optometrist since 1998. His clinical interests include providing eye care for children and adults with all levels of ability, particularly those who cannot communicate in the usual way such as infants and young children, children with special needs and adults with intellectual disability.  

He has been a tutor at the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences, Cardiff since 2001 teaching undergraduate optometrists. Since 2011 he has taught postgraduate optometrists in WOPEC's PGT modules Paediatric Optometry and Eye Care for People with Learning Disabilities.    Elsewhere, he has provided accredited Continuing Education and Training (CET) for registered optometrists in the format of lectures, clinical workshops and peer discussion events.

Since 2004 he has been a WOPEC assessor in the accreditation processes for the Wales Eye Care Service and later also the LOCSU Glaucoma Local Enhanced Service that included the evaluation of clinical skills and competence of optometrists using Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).
