Overview

I am an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and currently a Visiting Professor at Cardiff University, Department of Computer Science and Informatics, supported by the TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye) 2219 International Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. My research focuses on privacy-preserving data publishing, big data privacy, and the development of artificial intelligence and machine learning methods to solve real-world problems in healthcare, cybersecurity, and intelligent systems. My current research at Cardiff University investigates machine learning-based early diagnosis of coronary artery disease, combining AI with clinical decision support systems.

Before joining Cardiff University, I served as a tenured Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Engineering at the Turkish Air Force Academy and the Atatürk Strategic Studies and Graduate Institute of the National Defence University. Throughout my academic career, I have taught undergraduate and graduate courses in machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data privacy, cybersecurity, big data analytics, information security, operating systems, and data mining while supervising numerous master's and doctoral students.

My research interests lie at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Privacy, Cybersecurity, Medical AI, Big Data Analytics, Computer Vision, and Deep Learning. I am particularly interested in designing intelligent systems that are not only accurate but also secure, explainable, and privacy-aware. My work spans both theoretical algorithm development and practical applications in healthcare, industrial systems, critical infrastructures, aviation, and smart manufacturing.

Over the years, I have authored more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters. My publications have appeared in leading journals. I have actively participated in numerous nationally and internationally funded research projects as principal investigator, researcher, consultant, and coordinator. These projects have been supported by TÜBİTAK, the European Union Erasmus+ Programme, KOSGEB, and several university research funding bodies. My research collaborations involve academia, industry, and government organisations, enabling the translation of advanced AI research into practical technological solutions.

Alongside my research activities, I contribute extensively to the international scientific community through editorial and peer-review services for leading journals published by IEEE, ACM, Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, MDPI, Taylor & Francis, and Oxford University Press. I also serve as a project evaluator, referee, and panel member for national funding agencies, including TÜBİTAK and TÜSEB, supporting research excellence and innovation.

I welcome collaborations with researchers, clinicians, industry partners, and students who are interested in developing innovative and impactful artificial intelligence and data privacy solutions for challenging scientific and societal problems.

Biography

Can Eyupoglu received the B.Sc. degree (Hons.) in Computer Engineering and the Minor degree in Electronics Engineering from Istanbul Kültür University, Türkiye in 2012, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Engineering from Istanbul University in 2014 and 2018, respectively. From 2019 to 2021, he was an Assistant Professor with the Computer Engineering Department, Turkish Air Force Academy, National Defence University, Istanbul, Türkiye. He is currently a Visiting Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Informatics, Cardiff University, Cardiff, United Kingdom, and an Associate Professor in the Computer Engineering Department, Turkish Air Force Academy, National Defence University. He has published about 100 papers in various esteemed journals and conferences, and has been serving as a member of the reviewer board in nearly 50 prestigious academic journals. He is also on the editorial board of various reputable journals. His current research interest includes artificial intelligence, machine learning, artificial neural networks, data privacy, cyber security, image processing, and bioinformatics.
