Overview

In Brazil, at UNICAMP I’ve pioneered genome to molecules and enzymes application by using genome-mining strategies Genome to molecules approaches represents an encouraging avenue to elect and isolate new bioactive targets. We've combined genome sequencing and annotation with modern synthetic biology approaches, in vivo and in vitro recombination to access known and unknown metabolites in the scope of gaining improved knowledge of our biodiversity to develop sustainable livelihoods and bioeconomy. By sequencing actinobacteria endophytic and from soil we were able to elect several gene clusters and enzymes of biotechnological interest and decipher unique structures and biosynthetic pathways involved in the biosynthesis of cyclodepsipeptides and hybrid PKS-NRPS encoded compounds by using MS-Guided Genome Mining.
