Biography

Akmal Hanuk is Business Tutor at Cardiff Business School, where he mentors and inspires the next generation of business leaders. His teaching integrates international strategy, entrepreneurship, innovation, and financial inclusion with real-world practice, reflecting Cardiff University’s Public Value mission to shape leaders who create meaningful, positive change in society.

Beyond academia, Akmal is the Founder and Chief Executive of Assadaqaat Community Finance (ACF) UK, a pioneering social enterprise advancing economic resilience, financial inclusion and empwerment for marginalised communities. Under his leadership, ACF has become a catalyst for enterprise-led development, supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the ambitions of the Well-being of Future Generations Act (Wales).

Akmal also serves as an Independent Member of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) and sits on the Board of Welsh Water (Glas Cymru Holdings Cyfyngedig). Among several national and international senior board level appointments, his governance career includes an influential eight-year tenure with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, where he championed efforts to tackle health inequalities and embed inclusive, community-driven strategies.

An accomplished social entrepreneur, strategic leader, and keynote speaker, Akmal contributes regularly to international conferences and as a guest lecturer at leading universities. His expertise spans International Business Strategy, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Financial Inclusion, and Islamic Finance—areas central to the evolving landscape of global business and sustainable development.

Through his cross-sector leadership and academic engagement, Akmal exemplifies Cardiff Business School’s vision of uniting rigorous scholarship with societal impact, equipping future leaders to deliver transformative, inclusive growth worldwide.
