Overview

I hold a PhD from Northwestern University (Illinois,USA), specialising in French, Italian and Senegalese literatures. I received my BA (Hons) from the University of Bath (Modern Languages and European Studies). Having started teaching in 1998, I have decades of experience in teaching French and Italian languages, Comparative Literature, Screen Studies and Creative Writing. I have supervised ten postgraduate to the completion of their PhDs in most of these areas. I have authored 50+ articles and book chapters, and have edited twelve collections of essays/articles. I am the author of the monograph Afropean Female Selves: Migration and Language in the Life Writing of Fatou Diome and Igiaba Scego (Routledge, 2023), which explores transcontinental identity in the works of two major female authors writing in French and Italian.I am a tri-national citizen (British, US, Australian) with teaching experience across three continents. I still identify as Welsh, however, and grew up speaking versions of Welsh and English. I am originally from Splott, Cardiff and received all my high school education in this city.
